Through the first 15 matches of the 2026 season, the Union was the worst team in MLS, taking seven points from a possible 45. During the World Cup break, changes came on and off the field. Now, Philadelphia is undefeated in its last seven matches, taking 17 points from a possible 21. As a result, the Union is now battling for a playoff spot<\/a> with two months left in the season.<\/p>\n

Philly currently sits in 12th place in the East with 24 points. The difference between that spot and the final playoff spot, ninth place, is just one point; however, the difference between 12th and seventh is only four points. The Union has momentum on their side right now, but they’ll have to fight to move up. Here’s a look at the battle ahead and the teams involved.<\/p>\n

Teams fighting for the playoffs in the East<\/p>\n

The six teams battling in the Eastern Conference for the final playoff spots are NYCFC, New York Red Bulls<\/a>, Orlando City, Toronto FC, DC United, and the Philadelphia Union. All are separated by four points or fewer, and all have 12 games still to play. It’s likely this group of six will be duking it out for three playoff spots. Here’s a look at the standings:<\/p>\n
