Taken together, the complaints portrayed Bove at Trump\u2019s Justice Department as a leader frustrated with underlings as he pressured them to align with the president\u2019s policies even if he faced significant opposition, according to multiple people familiar with whistleblower accusations.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmdp938d9000p3b6nxzmeb2yv@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The Senate approved the nomination 50-49, largely along party lines.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmdp938d9000q3b6n8tic1ys8@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            CNN has reached out to the Department of Justice but did not receive a response.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmdp938d9000r3b6nxlo5tzsw@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            A Justice Department spokesman previously told CNN that Bove \u201cwill make an excellent judge.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmdp938d9000s3b6n24kdhqiw@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cEmil\u202fBove\u202fis a highly qualified judicial nominee who has done incredible work at the Department of Justice to help protect civil rights, dismantle Foreign Terrorist Organizations, and Make America Safe Again,\u201d spokesperson Gates McGavick told CNN. \u201cHe will make an excellent judge \u2014 the Department\u2019s loss will be the Third Circuit\u2019s gain.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmdp938da000u3b6nvuq7fukr@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Among the accusations raised by whistleblowers in recent months were concerns over Bove\u2019s interactions with rank-and-file prosecutors.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmdp938da000v3b6njs1u29wb@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            In one case, at least some members of the powerful Senate Judiciary Committee \u2013 the panel responsible for advancing Bove to a full Senate vote \u2013 were made aware of an audio recording of a meeting that Bove held with prosecutors earlier this year in which he pushed them to follow orders and dismiss the federal corruption case against New York Mayor Eric Adams, sources told CNN.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmdp9dv7100003b6nku0hncbt@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Democrats on the committee looked into whether the whistleblower\u2019s disclosures contradicted Bove\u2019s Senate testimony about the meeting and his denial that he threatened to punish prosecutors who refused to dismiss the Adams case in line with the administration\u2019s agenda. Sources have described the existence and substance of an audio recording to CNN, but CNN has not independently listened to it.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmdp938da000x3b6nsg16jxmu@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Two other whistleblowers went to the Senate Judiciary Committee with concerns about Bove\u2019s approach to the courts while pushing Trump\u2019s immigration agenda, which has at times deprived detainees of due process.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmdp938da000y3b6ntdvlqmls@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            In the wake of some of the allegations against Bove, Democratic members of the Senate Judiciary Committee <a href=\"https:\/\/nam11.safelinks.protection.outlook.com\/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.cnn.com%2F2025%2F07%2F17%2Fpolitics%2Femil-bove-nomination-senate-committee-vote&amp;data=05%7C02%7CMegan.Trimble%40cnn.com%7C267f11bb35074fe4588508ddcf02e1a4%7C0eb48825e8714459bc72d0ecd68f1f39%7C0%7C0%7C638894333479416142%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJFbXB0eU1hcGkiOnRydWUsIlYiOiIwLjAuMDAwMCIsIlAiOiJXaW4zMiIsIkFOIjoiTWFpbCIsIldUIjoyfQ%3D%3D%7C0%7C%7C%7C&amp;sdata=olweeZjTr8BICCermh7kDkLIGAIg11wskSxEIcipuks%3D&amp;reserved=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">walked out of a key vote earlier this month<\/a> in protest. But Bove\u2019s nomination advanced over their opposition with all 12 Republicans on the panel voting to move it forward.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmdp938da000z3b6n4amm6tom@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Leading up to the final vote Tuesday, Democratic Sen. Cory Booker said he had obtained new documentation related to Bove\u2019s alleged actions, claiming to have \u201csubstantive information\u201d to share with his colleagues about the nomination and inviting them to view it for themselves.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmdp938da00103b6n2lj2kzg8@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The Washington Post on Monday and Tuesday also <a href=\"https:\/\/nam11.safelinks.protection.outlook.com\/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.washingtonpost.com%2Fnational-security%2F2025%2F07%2F28%2Femil-bove-nomination-judge-mislead%2F&amp;data=05%7C02%7CMegan.Trimble%40cnn.com%7C267f11bb35074fe4588508ddcf02e1a4%7C0eb48825e8714459bc72d0ecd68f1f39%7C0%7C0%7C638894333479429995%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJFbXB0eU1hcGkiOnRydWUsIlYiOiIwLjAuMDAwMCIsIlAiOiJXaW4zMiIsIkFOIjoiTWFpbCIsIldUIjoyfQ%3D%3D%7C0%7C%7C%7C&amp;sdata=0YgJWpzD5kc2QxDw59v9zsMiJFsfKdxbeSVGUFz5Rds%3D&amp;reserved=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">described a whistleblower around the Adams case<\/a> who provided documentation to the Senate Judiciary Committee alleging that Bove had misled the Senate.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmdp938da00113b6nepzkc8d6@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Sen. Dick Durbin, the top Democrat on the Senate Judiciary panel, accused Republicans of pushing the confirmation vote too quickly in light of the new allegations.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmdp938da00123b6nnog9wwxv@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cIt appears my Republican colleagues fear the answers,\u201d he said ahead of Bove\u2019s final vote.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmdp938da00133b6nhkt1cv0j@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            But Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley said Tuesday that his office looked into the whistleblower allegations, as well as followed up with additional interviews, but found no misconduct by Bove.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmdp938da00143b6n3kj8yali@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The Iowa Republican pushed back against the allegations and criticisms lodged against Bove, saying Senate Democrats had \u201ccrossed the line\u201d in their attacks and had not shared whistleblower documentation in a timely manner.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmdp938da00153b6nz0xhv62a@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cThis timeline raises serious concerns, and it\u2019s legitimate to raise them as a major problem,\u201d Grassley said from the Senate floor just hours before the full chamber voted on Bove\u2019s confirmation. \u201cIf my Democratic colleagues wanted to investigate allegations, they should have come to this senator and we could have vetted the allegations in good faith together.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmdp938da00163b6npps5lo5m@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Grassley\u2019s office also told CNN they were not aware of one of the whistleblower\u2019s claims until media reports surfaced Friday. They did not meet with that person\u2019s lawyers until Monday, even though they had made themselves available to meet earlier, the senator\u2019s office told CNN.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmdp938da00173b6nl3nsq8gz@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            In the end, the whistleblowers\u2019 disclosures were not enough to prompt the public release of the Adams case recording or its transcripts.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmdp938da00183b6npv2xnsn8@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            While nearly all Republican senators stood behind the president\u2019s nominee and criticized the timeline by which the most recent whistleblower came forward, a few in the party raised concerns.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmdp938da00193b6no4pdllne@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            GOP Sens. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Susan Collins of Maine opposed Bove\u2019s nomination during procedural votes last week. Collins released a statement at the time saying she could not trust that he would act as an \u201cimpartial jurist\u201d if confirmed. The pair ultimately voted with Democrats against his confirmation.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmdp938da001a3b6no1kmjoc1@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            But key Republicans, including Sen. Thom Tillis \u2013 who previously was central to the withdrawal of another Trump legal nominee, Ed Martin, for DC US attorney \u2014 were willing to advance Bove\u2019s nomination and ultimately voted to confirm him.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmdp938da001b3b6nrjqe5fqc@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Tillis previously had gauged Trump nominees by their responses on the January 6, 2021, US Capitol attack, drawing a red line when Martin didn\u2019t denounce the violence.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmdp938da001c3b6n4i3k7pej@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            On Bove, Tillis said earlier this month, \u201cThe staff gave me a yes recommendation, until I have a reason otherwise. He didn\u2019t trip the switch on January 6.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmdp938da001d3b6n81xwclo7@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            CNN has reached out to Tillis\u2019 office for comment Tuesday.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmdp938da001f3b6n4lg9d8ov@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Trump nominated Bove in May to become a judge on the US Circuit Court of Appeals, which oversees federal precedent in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmdp938da001g3b6nc61dvjz6@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Before joining the Justice Department this year, Bove served as a private defense attorney for Trump responding to multiple criminal indictments, including one in New York City. The president then hand-picked him, alongside several of his other private attorneys, to fill leadership roles in the Justice Department.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmdp938da001h3b6ngv4j5dek@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The Adams case has long been part of the discussion around Bove\u2019s fitness for the federal bench. As Bove pushed for its dismissal earlier this year, a half-dozen Justice Department prosecutors resigned rather than follow his orders.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmdp938da001i3b6nrz7fju4e@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Some who resigned said they believed Bove\u2019s direction to dismiss the case was intended to coax Adams to support the Trump administration\u2019s hardline immigration policy enforcement in New York City.
