Andrew Cuomo, who has <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/07\/14\/us-news\/andrew-cuomo-confirms-independent-run-for-nyc-mayor\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">decided to continue his comeback tour<\/a> after his embarrassing June primary loss to 33-year-old Mamdani, came in a distant second at 22%, while the GOP nominee Curtis Sliwa pulled 13%.<\/p>\n<p>A new poll found that Democratic mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani has the support of 50% of likely voters. Luiz C. Ribeiro for New York Post<\/p>\n<p>Former Gov. Andrew Cuomo finished in a distant second with 22% in the poll from Zenith Research\/Public Progress Solutions. J.C. Rice<\/p>\n<p>Mayor Eric Adams, who bailed on the Democratic party line after his historic corruption case took months for the Trump administration to kill, failed to muster more than 7% of support.<\/p>\n<p>The poll found that even if Adams or Cuomo had their shot at facing off against the <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/07\/24\/us-news\/new-yorkers-are-still-unsure-if-theyd-welcome-a-socialist-mayor-even-as-zohran-mamdani-leads-pack-poll\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">DSA lawmaker<\/a> one on one, neither would come close to knocking off the current frontrunner.<\/p>\n<p>Cuomo came the closest but still only received 40% to Mamdani\u2019s 55% in a scenario where the other candidates dropped out, according to the poll of 1,000 likely voters.<\/p>\n<p>If Adams squared off solely against Mamdani, the survey had the socialist easily winning 59%-32%.<\/p>\n<p>The poll projected that Mamdani would still win the election even if Mayor Adams drops out and gives support to Cuomo. J.C. Rice<\/p>\n<p>The nagging issue for Adams and Cuomo, who both have been trying to rebrand themselves with the public, is the strong negatives dogging each campaign with strong name recognition.<\/p>\n<p> About 60% of likely voters said they would never consider voting for Cuomo, while 68% of those polled said Adams will never be their choice come November. <\/p>\n<p>If Cuomo or Adams were to abandon their independent campaigns, neither mayoral foe came close to Mamdani, the poll found.<\/p>\n<p>Republican mayoral candidate Curtis Sliwa finished in third in the poll with 13%.
