Photo by Daney Buil<\/a><\/p>\n The Student Senate held its second meeting of the fall semester Tuesday in Trinity Hall.<\/p>\n Reports were given on three resolutions, and three more were introduced. <\/p>\n Resolution 26-11, \u201cA Center for Every Maverick,\u201d calls for the E. H. Hereford University Center to be renamed. <\/p>\n Authored by Student Body President Andres Morales and Chief of Staff Trevor McCullough, the resolution lays out options including simply the University Center, the Jennifer Cowley University Center or another name to be approved through the appropriate UT System process. <\/p>\n This is not the first time Hereford\u2019s name has been put in a resolution to have it removed from the UC; a similar vote failed in 2023. <\/p>\n However, a building on campus has been renamed because of a resolution. The University Administration Building was previously named E.E. Davis Hall. Davis was also seen as a controversial figure in the campus\u2019s history, similar to Hereford. <\/p>\n Student Body President Andres Morales discusses his resolution during a Student Government meeting Sept. 1 at Trinity Hall. Morales proposed a resolution to rename the University Center, with the Jennifer Cowley University Center as a possible new name.<\/p>\n Photo by Daney Buil<\/a><\/p>\n \u201cThis has been done before,\u201d Morales said. <\/p>\n Resolution 26-10, \u201cRev Up That Rivalry,\u201d calls for the recognition of the sports rivalry between UTA and Tarleton State University, defining the week of Nov. 28 as \u201crivalry week.\u201d <\/p>\n McCullough, who authored the bill, gave examples of the historical rivalry between the schools. <\/p>\n The first volleyball and men\u2019s and women\u2019s basketball games against the institution would be referred to as \u201cthe grudge match,\u201d according to the resolution. <\/p>\n \u201cI picked up the idea of really building up that Tarleton State rivalry because we have it,\u201d McCullough said. \u201cI mean, as a Wrangler, it’s something that we care deeply about, and it’s one of our more fun games, that’s for certain.\u201d <\/p>\n Resolution 26-09, \u201cEvery Maverick Represented,\u201d calls for the speaker of the Senate and appropriate Student Government officials to review the most recent available university enrollment data for each college and school. They would use this to ensure the allocation of Senate seats for the next election accurately reflects the representation formula established by the Student Government constitution. <\/p>\n Resolution author Jaysen Johnson, chair for community affairs and senator for the College of Liberal Arts, said the numbers don\u2019t match, and they are not following the rules of the constitution because of that. <\/p>\n Emman Khan, speaker of the Senate, hits her gavel as she adjourns a vote during a Student Government meeting Sept. 1 at Trinity Hall.
