Lianyong Wei, 51, died early Aug. 23 at a hospital in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, ICE announced in a press release Tuesday. ICE said his cause of death was under investigation.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have expressed serious concerns to the relevant U.S. authorities over this incident and required a timely and thorough investigation into the cause of Mr. Wei\u2019s death, notification of the findings, measures to prevent any recurrence of similar incidents, and assistance to the family of the deceased in handling the aftermath,\u201d the Chinese Consulate General in Los Angeles said in a statement.<\/p>\n

Americans\u2019 belief that there is widespread corruption in the US government has reached a record high, according to a\u00a0new Gallup poll\u00a0released Wednesday.<\/p>\n

About 9 in 10 Americans \u2013 89 percent \u2013 say corruption is widespread throughout the US government. That\u2019s up 10 percentage points from last year, and marks the highest measure recorded in Gallup\u2019s 20-year trend.<\/p>\n

There is bipartisan agreement that there\u2019s substantial government corruption. About 9 in 10 Democrats and independents say this, as well as roughly 8 in 10 Republicans. Democrats, however, have driven the recent jumps.<\/p>\n

When President Biden was in the White House, about 6 in 10 Democrats thought government corruption was widespread. That jumped to 76 percent during President Trump\u2019s first year back in office and now sits at 91 percent.<\/p>\n

Gallup found that in recent years, the US has outpaced other countries with advanced economies when it comes to their perceptions of government corruption.<\/p>\n

The White House on Monday said it\u2019s partnering with North American Blue Energy Partners as part of Trump\u2019s push to tap into Venezuela\u2019s\u00a0oil industry, setting up a deal that will give the Pentagon a stake in roughly a fifth of the country\u2019s vast oil reserves.<\/p>\n

The Trump administration released more details on Monday night, days after Trump announced what he described as the\u00a0biggest oil deal in history. The US Department of Justice filed a federal lawsuit Tuesday against the school system in Kansas City, Kansas, over its policies on\u00a0transgender students.<\/p>\n

The lawsuit comes more than a year after the Education Department first said it was investigating four districts in Kansas following a complaint from the Defense of Freedom Institute. The conservative group\u2019s complaint alleged the schools had policies preventing disclosure of a student\u2019s \u201ctransgender status\u201d to parents without the student\u2019s consent.<\/p>\n

Schools in Kansas City, Kansas, have a policy of using students\u2019 preferred names and pronouns. The district also says requests from students who do not wish to involve their parents will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis, according to the Justice Department lawsuit.<\/p>\n

In April, the Education Department said it found the four Kansas districts in violation of the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act. The districts violated the privacy law, the department said, by maintaining a policy of not disclosing a student\u2019s gender transition at the parents\u2019 request, though the department did not cite a specific instance where this happened.<\/p>\n

Bessent pitches US-backed financial literacy competition to world\u2019s largest economies \u2014 7:05 a.m.<\/p>\n

As he hosted finance ministers from rich and developing nations in the G20, Bessent on Tuesday announced US sponsorship for a competition called the \u201cFinancial Literacy Solutions Sprint.\u201d<\/p>\n
