{"id":1039512,"date":"2026-09-02T20:26:34","date_gmt":"2026-09-02T20:26:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/1039512\/"},"modified":"2026-09-02T20:26:34","modified_gmt":"2026-09-02T20:26:34","slug":"montgomery-county-prepares-for-edouard-with-flood-watch-school-closures","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/1039512\/","title":{"rendered":"Montgomery County prepares for Edouard with flood watch, school closures"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"Box-_wrDxHtU__Box-sc-10sa3ie-0 Text-nO2aZ44r__TextBase-sc-s2hv5x-0 jJNfBD fSvavs article-text\"><strong>MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas<\/strong> \u2013 Montgomery County is preparing for Tropical Storm Edouard, with schools closing, government offices shutting down and emergency management crews staying overnight as the county braces for potential flooding.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Box-_wrDxHtU__Box-sc-10sa3ie-0 Text-nO2aZ44r__TextBase-sc-s2hv5x-0 jJNfBD fSvavs article-text\">Despite limited storm activity so far, residents say they are staying prepared.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Box-_wrDxHtU__Box-sc-10sa3ie-0 Text-nO2aZ44r__TextBase-sc-s2hv5x-0 jJNfBD fSvavs article-text\">\u201cWe\u2019re going to have food and we\u2019ll be able to use the generator in case the lights go out. So we\u2019re prepared as much as necessary. Hopefully it won\u2019t last too long,\u201d said Conroe resident Dianne Riles.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Box-_wrDxHtU__Box-sc-10sa3ie-0 Text-nO2aZ44r__TextBase-sc-s2hv5x-0 jJNfBD fSvavs article-text\">Conroe ISD and Willis ISD are among the school districts in Montgomery County canceling classes Wednesday. Several government offices are also closing ahead of the storm.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"Box-_wrDxHtU__Box-sc-10sa3ie-0 etvbxt font_openSans articleList\">\n<li class=\"Box-_wrDxHtU__Box-sc-10sa3ie-0 Stack-vJ7SwH7U__StackBase-sc-1m5bkhd-0 evEXvX dsnUCb\"\/><\/ul>\n<p class=\"Box-_wrDxHtU__Box-sc-10sa3ie-0 Text-nO2aZ44r__TextBase-sc-s2hv5x-0 jJNfBD fSvavs article-text\">Resident Devin Grady said the school closures were the right call.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Box-_wrDxHtU__Box-sc-10sa3ie-0 Text-nO2aZ44r__TextBase-sc-s2hv5x-0 jJNfBD fSvavs article-text\">\u201cI feel like we\u2019re getting worse ones (storms), you know, but it\u2019s better to be safe,\u201d Grady said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Box-_wrDxHtU__Box-sc-10sa3ie-0 Text-nO2aZ44r__TextBase-sc-s2hv5x-0 jJNfBD fSvavs article-text\">At the Montgomery County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, Executive Director Jason Millsaps says crews have been mobilizing since the storm\u2019s approach became clear.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Box-_wrDxHtU__Box-sc-10sa3ie-0 Text-nO2aZ44r__TextBase-sc-s2hv5x-0 jJNfBD fSvavs article-text\">\u201cWe started getting our equipment out, making sure it\u2019s fueled up, ready to go, that it\u2019s in working order, and making sure we had enough adequate staff across our public safety sectors to work that equipment. And then coordinating with our state partners to bring in boat crews and additional resources just in case we did see some significant flooding with this tropical storm,\u201d Millsaps said.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"Box-_wrDxHtU__Box-sc-10sa3ie-0 etvbxt font_openSans articleList\">\n<li class=\"Box-_wrDxHtU__Box-sc-10sa3ie-0 Stack-vJ7SwH7U__StackBase-sc-1m5bkhd-0 evEXvX dsnUCb\"\/><\/ul>\n<p class=\"Box-_wrDxHtU__Box-sc-10sa3ie-0 Text-nO2aZ44r__TextBase-sc-s2hv5x-0 jJNfBD fSvavs article-text\">Millsaps says the biggest concern with tropical systems is high water, especially from feeder bands that can drop heavy rain on small areas for extended periods, even overnight when residents are sleeping.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Box-_wrDxHtU__Box-sc-10sa3ie-0 Text-nO2aZ44r__TextBase-sc-s2hv5x-0 jJNfBD fSvavs article-text\">\u201cWhen you get out the next morning, you\u2019re going to work, obviously some of the kids aren\u2019t in school, but if you\u2019re out driving, finding a place to eat or going for a walk, don\u2019t drive in high water. Just because you think it\u2019s not high, it could be very high.
