Coastal communities could see impacts from tropical storm Marie as early as friday, according to NBC4\u2019s First Alert weather team.<\/p>\n
In Long Beach, crews were seen working to build a berm, just one of the measures being taking to protect homes and businesses along the coast.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe marine safety bureau, at the end, has sand and sandbags ready for the residents. most of it is just prep,\u201d Rob Covell, a Long Beach resident, said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Preparations are being made to protect communities from the possible impacts of tropical storm Marie this weekend.<\/p>\n
\u201cEven with the boards, the waves slam right over it,\u201d Siobhan Gadallah, a Long Beach resident, said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Those who live on the Long Beach peninsula are prone to coastal flooding and have been dealing with it quite a bit this summer.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn the last 3 months i would say about 15, 17 days in a month,\u201d Vr Venkataraman, a Long Beach resident, said.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
NBC4\u2019s First Alert weather team says tropical storm Marie may cause those same conditions like large breaking waves, high tides, coastal flooding and dangerous rip currents.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou have to be understanding of your limitations. a lot of people are more confident than their ability in the waters,\u201d Adam Yacenda, a lifeguard battalion chief with the Newport Beach Fire Department, said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Yacenda says he\u2019s expecting large crowds at beaches up and down the coast for the Labor Day weekend and is warning people to take precautions.<\/p>\n
