In 1969, the New York\u00a0gallerist Lee Nordness was on a mission.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cPlacing paintings and sculpture into a convenient \u2018fine arts\u2019 category, and objects \u2014 whether functional or non-functional \u2014 into a craft category no longer sustains any aesthetic validity,\u201d he wrote at the time.\u00a0<\/p>\n
His historic exhibition at the Smithsonian that year\u00a0\u2014 \u201cObjects: USA,\u201d featuring more than 500 works by ceramicists, weavers, quilters, woodworkers and artists specializing in metal, glass, enamel, mosaic and more\u00a0\u2014 helped shift that line of thinking.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Almost six decades years later, the Museum of Craft and Design is revisiting the concept, with a new \u201cObjects: USA\u201d with more than 70 pieces that break down the silos of art, craft and design.<\/p>\n
