{"id":1040588,"date":"2026-09-03T09:55:21","date_gmt":"2026-09-03T09:55:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/1040588\/"},"modified":"2026-09-03T09:55:21","modified_gmt":"2026-09-03T09:55:21","slug":"stock-market-today-live-updates-282","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/1040588\/","title":{"rendered":"Stock market today: Live updates"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Traders work on the floor at the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) in New York, US, on Monday, Aug. 31, 2026. <\/p>\n<p>Michael Nagle | Bloomberg | Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>U.S. equity futures were mixed early Thursday after the major averages snapped a three-day losing run sparked by rising Treasury yields amid more fighting between the U.S. and Iran.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/@SP.1\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">S&amp;P 500 futures<\/a> traded flat. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/@DJ.1\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Dow futures<\/a> were up 78 points, or 0.15%, as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/@ND.1\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nasdaq 100 futures<\/a> slipped 0.05%.<\/p>\n<p>Stocks closed higher in Wednesday&#8217;s regular trading, with all three major averages ending a three-day slump. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.DJI\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Dow Jones Industrial Average<\/a> gained nearly 300 points, or about 0.6%. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.SPX\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">S&amp;P 500<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.IXIC\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nasdaq Composite<\/a> each gained 0.5%.<\/p>\n<p>In Asia, markets close mixed. Japan&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.N225\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nikkei 225<\/a> slid 0.17%. South Korea&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.KS11\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Kopsi<\/a> rose 0.26%, while Australia&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.AXJO\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">S&amp;P\/ASX 200<\/a> was up 0.46%. China&#8217;s CSI 300 added 0.1%.<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/US2Y\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">2-year Treasury<\/a> yield hit 4.41%, the highest level since January 2025. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/US10Y\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">10-year Treasury<\/a> yield briefly touched 4.818%, the highest mark since November 2023<strong>.<\/strong> Both ended the day off their highs, however. Oil prices were modestly higher on the day, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/@CL.1\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">West Texas Intermediate<\/a> futures rising 0.9% to close just above $91 a barrel.<\/p>\n<p>Though investors are worried about inflation, New York Federal Reserve President John Williams told CNBC on Wednesday he sees higher Treasury yields as the result of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/09\/02\/new-york-feds-williams-says-yield-surge-due-to-strong-economic-prospects.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">solid economic prospects<\/a> following record-breaking corporate profits in the second quarter.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;What&#8217;s driving it, in large part, is &#8230; really a strong U.S. economy and a strong economic outlook fueled by big investments in AI and data centers and technology in general,&#8221; he said. &#8220;So, I think it&#8217;s not really about financial conditions affecting the economy. It&#8217;s more about the economy affecting financial conditions.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Earlier in the week, stocks were falling and bond yields were rising amid renewed fighting between the U.S. and Iran. U.S. officials had signaled a transition from overt military action to economic sanctions prior to the resumption of hostilities in which the U.S. and Iran exchanged strikes.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m finding it hard to make real sense of it,&#8221; Richard Haass, president emeritus of the Council on Foreign Relations, told CNBC on Wednesday. &#8220;It looked as though over the last few weeks we had switched to an economic coercive approach &#8230; I thought we&#8217;d come to the conclusion that more military action wasn&#8217;t going to pay off.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, traders will have an eye on weekly jobless claims. The main event for economic data will be out on Friday in the form of August&#8217;s payrolls report.<\/p>\n<p>In terms of earnings, reports are due from optical networking player Ciena and consumer staples giant Campbell&#8217;s Thursday morning.
