Parliament House mistakenly raised two New Zealand flags among the 44 flags displayed to celebrate Australian National Flag Day.<\/p>\n
Australia celebrated Australian National Flag Day on Thursday to commemorate the first time the Australian National Flag was flown in 1901.<\/p>\n
Parliament House in Canberra marked the occasion by flying the Australian National Flag on 44 ceremonial flagpoles outside the building.<\/p>\n
In an embarrassing blunder, two of the flags raised were actually the flags of New Zealand.<\/p>\n
The flags were quickly replaced after the mistake was noticed, with the two rogue flags removed.<\/p>\n
The Australian flag shares similarities with the New Zealand flag, with the main difference being the seven-pointed Commonwealth Star on the Australian flag and not on the New Zealand flag.<\/p>\n
On its website, Parliament House describes the event as a celebration of “values and fairness”.<\/p>\n
“This year marks the 125th anniversary of Federation, the adoption of the Constitution, the first sitting of Commonwealth Parliament on 9 May 1901, and the first official flying of the Australian National Flag,” the website reads.\u00a0<\/p>\n
