Getting a closer look, the surfer realized the stick wasn\u2019t just being pulled by the tides \u2014 there was someone stuck on the end.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/1753862654_530_scale;webp=auto;jpeg_quality=60.jpg\"  alt=\"turtle trapped on stick \" width=\"792\" height=\"928\" style=\"display:block;height:auto;aspect-ratio:792 \/ 928\" loading=\"lazy\"\/>Wildlife Rescue Team Malta <\/p>\n<p data-element-index=\"0\">The Good Samaritan quickly contacted <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/wildliferescuemalta\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wildlife Rescue Team Malta<\/a> for help. A pair of rescue volunteers named Lisa and Liz tried navigating the rough seas, but soon realized they wouldn\u2019t make it. In need of backup, the women contacted <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/CivilProtectionMalta\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Civil Protection Malta<\/a>, which dispatched a boat to the scene.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/1753862654_783_scale;webp=auto;jpeg_quality=60.jpg\"  alt=\"turtle in ocean \" width=\"792\" height=\"576\" style=\"display:block;height:auto;aspect-ratio:792 \/ 576\" loading=\"lazy\"\/>Wildlife Rescue Team Malta <\/p>\n<p data-element-index=\"0\">Searching the ocean, Civil Protection Malta volunteers found who they were looking for \u2014 a desperate sea turtle, still tied to the end of the stick by a knot of plastic. The volunteers gently hauled the turtle out of the water and brought her to Lisa and Liz, who were waiting nearby.<\/p>\n<p data-element-index=\"1\">Rescuers named the turtle Belle, freed her from the last bits of trash, and examined her for injuries.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/1753862654_58_scale;webp=auto;jpeg_quality=60.jpg\"  alt=\"turtle trapped \" width=\"792\" height=\"607\" style=\"display:block;height:auto;aspect-ratio:792 \/ 607\" loading=\"lazy\"\/>Wildlife Rescue Team Malta <\/p>\n<p data-element-index=\"0\">\u201cThankfully the entanglement wasn&#8217;t extremely tight and hadn&#8217;t caused deep cuts or loss of circulation to the flippers,\u201d a representative from Wildlife Rescue Team Malta told The Dodo.<\/p>\n<p data-element-index=\"1\">The volunteers treated Belle\u2019s superficial cuts and gave her a moment to relax.
