\u201cHappy Days\u201d star Linda Purl made a rare appearance in Los Angeles.<\/p>\n

The \u201970s icon was pictured picking up her cake from a Gelson\u2019s market for her 71st birthday on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

For the outing, the actress kept a low profile, wearing a red baseball cap, a long-sleeve blue shirt and black pants.<\/p>\n

\u201cHappy Days\u201d star Linda Purl made a rare appearance in Los Angeles this week. BACKGRID<\/p>\n

In photos obtained by Page Six, the actress picked up a cake for her 71st birthday on Wednesday. BACKGRID<\/p>\n

She also celebrated her special day by doing a solo hike before inviting some friends over to her house for a get-together.<\/p>\n

Purl became a household name with her role in \u201cHappy Days,\u201d which followed wholesome, sweet-natured teenager Richie Cunningham (Ron Howard) as he navigated the usual awkward trials of high school, dating and growing up.<\/p>\n

She first appeared as Gloria, Richie\u2019s girlfriend, in the show\u2019s second season, then returned years later as the much more notable character, Ashley Pfister, the girlfriend and fianc\u00e9e of another central character, Fonzie (Henry Winkler).<\/p>\n

The sitcom ran for 11 seasons from 1974 to 1984.<\/p>\n

The TV icon kept a low profile as she ran some other errands. BACKGRID<\/p>\n

Following \u201cHappy Days,\u201d Purl landed a role on \u201cMatlock\u201d as the daughter of main character Ben Matlock (Andy Griffith), a very expensive criminal defense attorney. She was a regular during the show\u2019s first season.<\/p>\n

Throughout the \u201970s and \u201980s, Purl also starred in several films and Broadway shows.<\/p>\n

Later in life, Purl continued her TV career with many guest roles in hit shows, including \u201cThe Office,\u201d \u201cHomeland,\u201d \u201cTrue Blood\u201d and \u201cDesperate Housewives.\u201d<\/p>\n

After she wrapped up her hike, friends came over to her house to celebrate her special day. BACKGRID<\/p>\n

In recent years, she has stayed mainly out of the spotlight, but made headlines in 2020 for her relationship with fellow TV icon Patrick Duffy<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m in an incredibly happy relationship,\u201d the actor gushed to\u00a0People<\/a> at the time. \u201cI never thought for a minute this would happen again. I never thought I\u2019d feel this way again.\u201d<\/p>\n

The two had been casual friends but lost touch over time and found each other again after Duffy\u2019s wife of 48 years died of cancer in 2017.<\/p>\n

Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the duo was able to make their new relationship work.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe Zoomed every single night for at least two to three hours,\u201d Duffy recently\u00a0told Closer Weekly in 2021. <\/p>\n
