Law enforcement agencies told KPRC 2 News they did not receive any calls about the downed drone.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-dLMFU sc-fHjqPf jbiTJv kYFPaL article-text\">A photo shared with KPRC 2 News shows the all-electric drone in the middle of the southbound lanes with a parachute deployed.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"sc-dLMFU dXsCjt font_openSans articleList\">\n<li class=\"sc-dLMFU sc-eDPEul gFeYkf egxwAv\"\/><\/ul>\n<p class=\"sc-dLMFU sc-fHjqPf jbiTJv kYFPaL article-text\">\u201cIt was really crazy just to see it on the ground,\u201d Diana Acosta, who has ordered using Zipline, said. \u201cIt made me kind of nervous &#8230; it didn\u2019t hit a car &#8230; that\u2019s a good thing and it didn\u2019t fall on top of anybody.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-dLMFU sc-fHjqPf jbiTJv kYFPaL article-text\">The company confirmed the drone was on its way to pick up an order when the aircraft encountered a \u201cmidflight issue\u201d and deployed its parachute to land safely. \u201cParalands\u201d are rare, but a Zipline spokesperson said they are part of the redundant safety system.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-dLMFU sc-fHjqPf jbiTJv kYFPaL article-text\">\u201cNothing\u2019s perfect,\u201d Acosta said. \u201cSomebody didn\u2019t get their food on time.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-dLMFU sc-fHjqPf jbiTJv kYFPaL article-text\">The cause of the crash has not been determined and a company spokesperson said it\u2019s not believed that weather played a role despite storms in the Houston area on Friday. <\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-dLMFU sc-fHjqPf jbiTJv kYFPaL article-text\">Zipline has been operating since 2016 but only in the Cypress area since late April, according to a press release from the company. The drones pick up food from area restaurants and deliver them to customers in nearby neighborhoods. <\/p>\n<ul class=\"sc-dLMFU dXsCjt font_openSans articleList\">\n<li class=\"sc-dLMFU sc-eDPEul gFeYkf egxwAv\"\/><\/ul>\n<p class=\"sc-dLMFU sc-fHjqPf jbiTJv kYFPaL article-text\">\u201cSafety is Zipline\u2019s top priority. Every Zipline aircraft has multiple layers of safety backups \u2014 including redundant propellers, communications equipment and a parachute \u2014 and runs more than 500 safety checks each second while in flight.
