{"id":1044557,"date":"2026-09-05T08:15:29","date_gmt":"2026-09-05T08:15:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/1044557\/"},"modified":"2026-09-05T08:15:29","modified_gmt":"2026-09-05T08:15:29","slug":"valle-de-oro-planners-hear-from-outraged-residents-over-two-future-housing-projects","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/1044557\/","title":{"rendered":"Valle de Oro Planners hear from outraged residents over two future housing projects"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Jake Christie<\/p>\n<p>(Rancho San Diego) \u2014 A crowd of around 50 people filled the Community Room at the Rancho San Diego Public Library Sept. 1 due to notices mailed by Supervisor Monica Montgomery-Steppe\u2019s office concerning two proposed projects that if approved, would bring 413 new housing units to the area .Each would have some units designated as affordable housing.<\/p>\n<p>Photo, top:\u00a0 location of CalWest\u2019s proposed 335-unit \u201cTrellis\u201d housing project<\/p>\n<p><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.calwesttrellis.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">CalWest\u2019s \u201cTrellis\u201d<\/a> project would include 335 units in motor courts on a 35-acre lot off Jamacha Road and Lamp Airport Road. The project would include a recreational area with pool, clubhouse, pickleball courts, dog park, BBQs and other amenities. The CalWest project would mostly be two-story homes, with the affordable housing units in a three-story apartment building.<\/p>\n<p>Lennar\u2019s unnamed 79-unit \u201ctownhome\u201d-style project would be located\u00a0 next to Skyline Church on Campo Road (Highway 94),The Lennar buildings would be be two stories. The Lennar project is on a site originally planned by Skyline as a retirement home, but COVID scrapped those plans. Skyline later sold the property to Lennar.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-129381\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/location-of-Lennars-proposed-79-unit-housing-project.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"392\" height=\"264\"  \/>Photo, right: location of Lennar\u2019s proposed 79-unit housing project.<\/p>\n<p>Because these were informational items only, none of the proponents were in attendance.\u00a0 After Chair Yousef announced that there had been no traffic or environmental studies on these projects yet because they are newly proposed, the floor was opened for public comments.<\/p>\n<p>Bill Zuris posed a number of questions on how information on these projects would be released and where it would be kept online. He also expressed that the projects don\u2019t \u201cfit the character of East County\u201d because they would intrude onto the remaining open space in Rancho San Diego.<\/p>\n<p>Yousef responded that the County would be putting these projects up on the Planning and Development Services website and reiterated that the projects were in their most initial phase.
