{"id":1045087,"date":"2026-09-05T14:39:15","date_gmt":"2026-09-05T14:39:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/1045087\/"},"modified":"2026-09-05T14:39:15","modified_gmt":"2026-09-05T14:39:15","slug":"houston-approves-tirz-budgets-updates-to-agreements-bellaire-meyerland-west-university","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/1045087\/","title":{"rendered":"Houston approves TIRZ budgets, updates to agreements | Bellaire &#8211; Meyerland &#8211; West University"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Houston City Council approved the Texas Medical Center Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone\u2019s fiscal year 2026-27 budget of $1.7 million during the Sept. 2 regular meeting.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The gist<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Known as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.houstontx.gov\/ecodev\/tirz\/28.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">TIRZ 28<\/a>, council also approved the $6.9 million budget for its five-year Capital Improvements Plan. Projects that will take place in the area throughout the next five years include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>TMC independent water supply system<\/li>\n<li>Transportation safety and access improvements<\/li>\n<li>Roadway rehabilitation<\/li>\n<li>Multimodal connectivity improvements<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The water supply system also has a budget of $400,000 and will be paid off during FY 2026-27.<\/p>\n<p>TIRZ 28 includes areas like the Texas Medical Center, the Houston Zoo and Hermann Park. It was first created in December 2022, according to the city\u2019s website.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Also on the agenda<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Council also approved an updated agreement extending Harris County\u2019s participation in TIRZ 16, <a href=\"https:\/\/uptown-houston.com\/about\/tirz-uda\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">which represents Uptown<\/a>, through 2040.
