In fact, some of the most memorable rock songs from all of the decade came out in 1987, including these three rock songs, which still make me smile when I listen to them today.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Finer Things\u201d by Steve Winwood\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\tPlay video<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/1788626961_296_hqdefault.jpg\" alt=\"Play\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Steve Winwood\u2019s \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/americansongwriter.com\/what-are-steve-winwoods-5-biggest-us-hits\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Finer Things<\/a>\u201d is part of Back In The High Life, his fourth studio album. The song, written by Winwood and Jennings, became a three-week No. 1 hit for Linwood.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\tVideos by American Songwriter\t\t<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe Finer Things\u201d is a feel-good tune about celebrating all that is good in life. The chorus says, \u201cThe finer things keep shining through \/ The way my soul gets lost in you \/ The finer things I feel in me \/ The golden dance life could be.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">All four songs from Back In The High Life became hit singles for Winwood, including the title track. In 1990, Winwood had his final No. 1 single with \u201cOne And Only Man\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTonight, Tonight, Tonight\u201d by Genesis<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\tPlay video<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/1788626962_221_hqdefault.jpg\" alt=\"Play\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The final single from Genesis\u2019s Invisible Touch album is \u201cTonight, Tonight, Tonight\u201d. The song was written by <a href=\"https:\/\/americansongwriter.com\/after-auditioning-400-musicians-genesis-finally-decided-to-hire-phil-collins\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Phil Collins<\/a>, Tony Banks, and Mike Rutherford, all members of Genesis.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The chorus of \u201cTonight, Tonight, Tonight\u201d says, \u201cBecause tonight, tonight, tonight, oh \/ We\u2019re gonna make it right \/ Tonight, tonight, tonight.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cTonight, Tonight, Tonight\u201d at first listen sounds like an anthem of positivity, and for most people, that meaning holds true. But the song at its core is about someone who is addicted to drugs, trying to get their next hit.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Banks later <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=IxAYj8FCzps&amp;t=748s\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">reveals<\/a> that the working title of \u201cTonight, Tonight, Tonight\u201d was \u201cMonkey, Zulu\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHeat Of The Night\u201d by Bryan Adams<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\tPlay video<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/1788626963_603_hqdefault.jpg\" alt=\"Play\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Almost all of Bryan Adams\u2019 songs in the 1980s were exceptional, including \u201cHeat Of The Night\u201d. The first single from Into The Fire, Adams and Jim Vallance co-wrote this song together.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cHeat Of The Night\u201d says, \u201cI was caught in the crossfire of a silent scream \/ Where one man\u2019s nightmare is another man\u2019s dream \/ Pull the covers up high and pray for the mornin\u2019 light \/ Cause you\u2019re livin\u2019 alone in the heat of the night.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Adams actually plays lead guitar on this track, something Valance <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimvallance.com\/01-music-folder\/songs-folder-may-27\/pg-song-adams-heat-of-the.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">says<\/a> happens rarely. \u201cHeat Of The Night\u201d was partly inspired by Orson Welles\u2019 film, The Third Man. \u201cHeat Of The Night\u201d is the most successful single from Into The Fire.
