The 78th Emmy Awards begin Saturday at the Peacock Theater at L.A. LIVE with the presentation of awards in 49 categories, including outstanding game show, game show host and reality\/competition program host.<\/p>\n
\u201cJeopardy!\u201d has won six consecutive times for outstanding game show and a record 22 times since the show was revived in 1984. The category was part of the Daytime Emmy Awards from its inaugural 1974 ceremony, then shifted to the Primetime Emmys in 2023.<\/p>\n
The field of nominees is identical to last year\u2019s, with \u201cCelebrity Family Feud,\u201d \u201cThe Price is Right,\u201d \u201cWheel of Fortune\u201d and \u201cWho Wants to Be a Millionaire\u201d seeking to dethrone \u201cJeopardy.\u201d<\/p>\n
There is one change among the nominees for outstanding game show host, with Martin Short receiving a nomination for his work on the first season of the latest revival of \u201cMatch Game\u201d on ABC.<\/p>\n
The other nominees are Jimmy Kimmel of \u201cWho Wants to Be a Millionaire,\u201d last year\u2019s winner who shared the award in 1999 with Ben Stein as the co-host of \u201cWin Ben Stein\u2019s Money\u201d; Steve Harvey (\u201cCelebrity Family Feud\u201d), the winner in 2014, 2017 and 2022; four-time nominee Ken Jennings (\u201cJeopardy!\u201d) and two-time nominee Colin Jost (\u201cPop Culture Jeopardy!\u201d).<\/p>\n
Elizabeth Banks (\u201cPress Your Luck\u201d) was the lone 2025 nominee who failed to receive a nomination this year.<\/p>\n
Alan Cumming is seeking his third consecutive victory as outstanding host for a reality or competition program for Peacock\u2019s \u201cThe Traitors.\u201d Cumming ended RuPaul Charles\u2019 streak of eight consecutive victories in 2024.<\/p>\n
There is one newcomer in the field of five nominees \u2014 Ariana Madix of Peacock\u2019s \u201cLove Island USA.\u201d<\/p>\n
The other nominees are Charles, an 11-time nominee for hosting MTV\u2019s \u201cRuPaul\u2019s Drag Race\u201d; \u201cSurvivor\u201d host Jeff Probst, who won each year from 2008 to 2011, the first four times it was presented but hasn\u2019t won since; and three-time nominee Kristen Kish of Bravo\u2019s \u201cTop Chef.\u201d<\/p>\n
The team from ABC\u2019s \u201cShark Tank\u201d failed to receive a nomination after being nominated in back-to-back years and five of the previous six years.<\/p>\n
David Attenborough has two chances to become the oldest winner of a Primetime Emmy at 100. The British broadcaster, biologist, natural historian and writer is nominated twice for best narrator for \u201cA Gorilla Story: Told by David Attenborough,\u201d which streams on Netflix, and \u201cOcean with David Attenborough,\u201d which airs on National Geographic.<\/p>\n
The late producer Norman Lear became the oldest Primetime Emmy winner in 2019 when he won a producing victory for outstanding variety special for \u201cLive in Front of a Studio Audience: Norman Lear\u2019s All in the Family and The Jeffersons\u201d at age 96.<\/p>\n
Attenborough had a chance to set the record last year, but lost to former President Barack Obama. Attenborough and Obama share the record for wins in the category with three with actor Keith David. Two of David\u2019s victories came for outstanding voice-over performance. That category was separated into outstanding narrator and outstanding character voice-over performance in 2014.<\/p>\n
Saturday\u2019s awards are predominantly for reality, nonfiction and variety programming and in such technical categories as picture editing, sound mixing and lighting. On Sunday, awards in 53 categories of scripted programming will be presented.<\/p>\n
The Saturday and Sunday ceremonies will be edited into a single broadcast that will air at 8 p.m. next Saturday on FXX and stream on Hulu the following day.<\/p>\n
Awards in the top 19 categories will be presented Sept. 14, also at the Peacock Theater, in a ceremony to be televised by NBC.<\/p>\n
The awards presented Saturday and Sunday had been known as the Creative Arts Emmys, but a shift of seven awards from what had been known as the Primetime Emmy Awards to the earlier ceremonies prompted a rebranding of all three ceremonies to the 78th Emmy Awards.<\/p>\n
