It may be another lost season for the Cincinnati Reds<\/a>, but that doesn’t mean everyone has thrown in the towel.<\/p>\n

In fact, some players are using this final month of the season to really focus on the little details of baseball:<\/a> getting that average up, stealing a few more bags, hitting for power, and, of course, becoming a citizen of this great country.<\/p>\n

That’s right. Becoming a United States citizen \u2014 otherwise known as the best test you’ll ever pass.<\/p>\n

Reds slugger Eugenio Suarez did just that earlier this week, when he missed two games to take the U.S. naturalization test. The 35-year-old passed with flying colors, and then was greeted with a surprise when he returned to the ballpark Friday night.<\/p>\n

Suarez’s teammates changed his walkup song to “God Bless The USA.” The veteran slugger then promptly hit a mammoth home run in the third inning.<\/p>\n

Patriot.<\/p>\n

Eugenio Suarez is a proud American<\/p>\n

Incredible. God, I love this country. Between Eugenio Suarez becoming a US citizen launching a home run in his first game back, and the return of college football today, who has it better than us right now?<\/p>\n

Nobody. Imagine being European today. Or Canadian. Imagine being anywhere else on the planet besides America.<\/p>\n

Sounds horrific. Sounds like a nightmare.<\/p>\n

Eugenio Suarez made his feelings about the country perfectly clear this week. And by the way, missing two games isn’t an easy thing to do \u2014 especially after the month Suarez just had.<\/p>\n

The Venezuelan hit six home runs and drove in 20 runs in August while also posting an .852 OPS. Not bad for a 35-year-old who was, inexplicably, placed on waivers by the Reds earlier in the month.<\/p>\n

Nobody scooped him up, so the Reds threw him back in the lineup and he responded by being the best hitter on the team for a few weeks.<\/p>\n

That’s the American way! The land of second chances.<\/p>\n

On the season, Suarez is hitting just .207, but he’s third on the team with 21 home runs. He has 346 career home runs over a 13-year MLB career that’s seen him play for Detroit, Seattle, Arizona, and two stints with the Reds.<\/p>\n
