(ABC News: Claudia Williams)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;That means that plates covered by bull bars, towbars, driving lights, faded or unreadable are all illegal,&#8221; the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;This also includes plates tucked up under parts of the vehicle or covered by any material.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The spokesperson said police regularly checked the condition of number plates and issued a fine if they did not comply.<\/p>\n<p>Illegal parking has &#8216;big impact&#8217;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">New cameras that run 24\/7 targeting parking complaint hotspots were responsible for just over 8,000 of the fines issued this year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The cameras, which target illegally parked cars in some of Brisbane&#8217;s busiest corridors, were first rolled out in four hotspots in early 2025 before expanding to more than 40 locations in November.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Just two locations \u2014 Graham Street in South Brisbane and Park Road in Milton \u2014 accounted for more than 3,000 infringement notices.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The cameras target motorists stopped illegally in clearways, no stopping zones, bus zones, loading zones and on yellow lines.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">In a statement, Civic Cabinet Chair for Customer Services Councillor Sarah Hutton said council wanted &#8220;motorists to think twice before parking illegally&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;When a vehicle parks illegally in a clearway, no stopping zone or bus zone, it causes delays for thousands of people trying to reach their destinations,&#8221; Ms Hutton said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;Even a short stop in the wrong place can have a big impact on traffic flow and safety.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"A blue sign that reads: 'parking enforcement camera in use'\" class=\"Image_image__5tFYM ContentImage_image__DQ_cq\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/718d792a1519b61c73d3131422779076.jpeg\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"Image\" data-lazy=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP FigureCaption_text__zDxQ5 Typography_sizeMobile12__w_FPC Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">A trial of the cameras was rolled out in early 2025.
