This initiative highlights the HHS Secretary&#8217;s ongoing mission to address chronic health issues across America through nutritional education.<\/p>\n<p>NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!\n  <\/p>\n<p data-layout-index=\"5\" class=\"speakable\">Major League Baseball (MLB) All-Star Alex Rodriguez, better known as A-Rod, hasn\u2019t swung a bat professionally in a decade, and he revealed he <a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fnc_food-drink_article_main-content_article-body_6_10098823\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/food-drink\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">eats a lot less<\/a> than he did when he was a full-time athlete.<\/p>\n<p data-layout-index=\"5\" class=\"speakable\">&#8220;During my 25-year career, I ate a lot more,&#8221; the legendary MLB slugger, three-time MVP and World Series champion told <a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fnc_food-drink_article_main-content_article-body_6_10098824\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/MensHealthMag\/status\/2095557439685058725\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Men\u2019s Health<\/a> in a video showing what he keeps in the refrigerator and pantry of his Los Angeles, Calif., home.<\/p>\n<p data-layout-index=\"5\">&#8220;I used to eat six times a day \u2014 a lot of steak, a lot of potatoes, a lot of rice, beans,&#8221; A-Rod said. &#8220;You\u2019re burning so much calories when you\u2019re playing 162 games.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p data-layout-index=\"5\"><a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fnc_food-drink_article_main-content_article-body_6_10098825\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/food-drink\/tennis-great-raphael-nadal-swears-breakfast-nutrient-packed-tiny-fish\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>TENNIS GREAT RAPHAEL NADAL SWEARS BY BREAKFAST WITH NUTRIENT-PACKED TINY FISH<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p data-layout-index=\"5\">These days, the 51-year-old businessman, sports-team owner and broadcaster eats a wide variety of foods, with healthy options always on hand along with a stash of indulgent snack items.<\/p>\n<p data-layout-index=\"5\">The staples A-Rod told Men\u2019s Health are always in his fridge include plenty of water \u2014 &#8220;some sparkling, but not too much&#8221; \u2014 eggs, spring lettuce mix and fruit, including bananas, apples and oranges, which the athlete called &#8220;very important.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/alex_rodriguez_a_rod.jpg\" alt=\"Alex Rodriguez claps while standing on a field.\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\"\/> <\/p>\n<p>Alex Rodriguez gave a look inside his kitchen and revealed how his eating habits have changed since retiring from baseball. (Jack Compton\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p data-layout-index=\"5\">He said he usually eats three or four meals a day and mixes in a protein shake.<\/p>\n<p data-layout-index=\"5\">His refrigerator still contains a few &#8220;pop sodas&#8221; (his term) for friends who visit, because A-Rod gave up drinking soft drinks five years ago.<\/p>\n<p data-layout-index=\"5\">Other items A-Rod said he must have in his fridge are blueberries \u2014 &#8220;always fresh, organic&#8221; \u2014 strawberries, greens \u2014 including salad and some broccoli \u2014 and hummus for a late-night snack.<\/p>\n<p data-layout-index=\"5\"><a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fnc_food-drink_article_main-content_article-body_6_10098826\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/lifestyle\/quizzes\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>TEST YOURSELF WITH OUR LATEST LIFESTYLE QUIZ<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p data-layout-index=\"5\">A-Rod said he is a &#8220;chips expert.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p data-layout-index=\"5\">In his pantry, he unveiled an assortment of salty, greasy goodness in the form of barbecue chips, Doritos, Cheetos, Tostitos, Corn Nuts and cashews.<\/p>\n<p data-layout-index=\"5\">&#8220;This is where I do my best work \u2014 at 2 a.m.,&#8221; he joked. I need to eat more, especially some healthy proteins, more fruit, more water, more fuel.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p data-layout-index=\"5\">A-Rod said his favorite pregame meal was a peanut butter and jelly sandwich with barbecue chips and two bottles of water.<\/p>\n<p data-layout-index=\"5\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/newsletters?cmpid=fnfirstnl\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR OUR LIFESTYLE NEWSLETTER<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p data-layout-index=\"5\">To celebrate big wins, he said he enjoyed eating a big steak with a sweet potato &#8220;or some good sushi.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p data-layout-index=\"5\">His go-to comfort foods reflect his Dominican heritage and include rice and beans, pl\u00e1tanos maduros \u2014 sweet, ripe plantains that are fried until caramelized \u2014 and tostones \u2014 twice-fried, crispy green plantains.<\/p>\n<p data-layout-index=\"5\">Revealing his go-to burger meal, A-Rod said it\u2019s a <a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fnc_food-drink_article_main-content_article-body_6_10098829\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/food-drink\/americas-best-fast-food-burger-revealed-not-available-every-state\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">double Whopper with cheese<\/a>.
