September is shaping up to be one of the busier months of the 2026 hobby calendar,<\/strong> with several major basketball releases, one of baseball\u2019s most important prospect products, a notable hockey release and a few more unusual products that could generate plenty of collector interest.<\/p>\n

WNBA collectors in particular have a lot to look forward to. Donruss opens the month before Prizm arrives three weeks later, giving the 2026 rookie class two major releases in September alone. <\/p>\n

Baseball collectors get both Panini Prizm and Bowman Chrome, while Topps and Panini are also loading the calendar with multiple premium basketball products.<\/p>\n

As always, release dates and presale prices can change. Here are the biggest sports card releases currently scheduled for September 2026.<\/p>\n

2026 Panini Donruss WNBA Basketball \u2013 September 4<\/p>\n

September starts quickly with 2026 Donruss WNBA<\/strong>, which arrives on September 4. Hobby boxes are currently selling for around $345 to $350 on preorder, with each box containing 96 cards, including an average of three autograph or memorabilia cards and 24 inserts or parallels.<\/p>\n

The big appeal is the combination of a promising rookie class and several established Donruss chases. Pen Pals brings on-card autographs into the product, while Downtown remains the most important insert for collectors. Panini is also adding Gold Downtown parallels numbered to just 10. <\/p>\n

With Prizm WNBA coming later in the month, Donruss probably won\u2019t be the definitive rookie-card product for this class, but Downtowns and on-card rookie autographs give it enough upside to make this one of September\u2019s more interesting releases.<\/p>\n

Also releasing September 4 is 2026 Panini Prizm Baseball<\/strong>. Hobby boxes are generally preselling in the $200-$250 range. Each box contains 144 cards, with three autographs, 22 Prizm parallels and 12 inserts on average. The base checklist contains 300 cards.<\/p>\n

Prizm Baseball remains an unusual product because it doesn\u2019t carry the same licensing appeal as Topps\u2019 flagship baseball brands, but Panini has assembled an impressive checklist of prospects, young stars and legends. <\/p>\n

Konnor Griffin, Kevin McGonigle, Paul Skenes, Bobby Witt Jr. and Nolan Ryan are among the names Panini is promoting for autographs. More importantly for gamblers, Color Blast returns and the ultra-rare Manga insert makes its Panini Baseball debut. <\/p>\n

At roughly $200-$250 with three autographs, this could be a fun rip<\/strong>, even if its long-term singles market remains a step behind licensed Topps baseball products.<\/p>\n

2026 Bowman Chrome Baseball \u2013 September 9<\/p>\n

The biggest baseball release of September is an easy choice. 2026 Bowman Chrome Baseball arrives September 9 and continues to be one of the hobby\u2019s most important destinations for prospect cards and first Bowman autographs.<\/p>\n

Hobby boxes contain only 60 cards \u2014 six packs of 10 \u2014 but guarantee two autographs. Preorders have generally landed around $400, although some hobby shops are asking closer to $450 as release day approaches.<\/p>\n

The set pairs a 100-card veteran and rookie base checklist with a separate 100-card Bowman Prospect set, but the real focus will naturally be the new crop of 1st Bowman<\/strong> cards. Topps is also introducing new inserts such as Across the Seams and WBC Flag Variations, while Bowman Spotlights and Crystallized return. <\/p>\n

International Refractor autographs numbered to five, Gold Ink variations numbered to 15 and the inevitable SuperFractors give prospect collectors plenty of high-end targets. Bowman Chrome boxes are expensive for only 60 cards, but few releases have a better track record of creating important prospect cards.<\/p>\n

2026-27 Upper Deck Artifacts Hockey \u2013 September 16<\/p>\n

Hockey collectors get one of Upper Deck\u2019s longest-running premium brands<\/strong> on September 16 with 2026-27 Artifacts. Hobby boxes are currently available for around $150 and contain 32 total cards. On average, each box delivers two autograph, memorabilia, or premium tech insert cards, four serial-numbered parallels, an Aurum card, and either a Rookie Redemption or acetate card.<\/p>\n

Artifacts has never been the flashiest hockey release, but its combination of numbered cards, memorabilia and rookie content makes it one of the more approachable premium products on the NHL calendar. <\/p>\n

This year\u2019s memorabilia lineup gets particularly creative, including Arena Artifacts cards tied to Alex Ovechkin moments, Heavyweight Ticket cards containing pieces of historic ticket stubs and Benchmarks cards pairing Rangers autographs with pieces of the team\u2019s arena bench. At roughly $150, it also stands out in a hobby increasingly dominated by $300, $500 and even four-figure boxes.<\/p>\n

2025-26 Topps Definitive Basketball \u2013 September 17<\/p>\n

And then things get ridiculous.<\/p>\n

Topps Definitive Basketball makes its NBA debut on September 17 with one of the most expensive configurations we\u2019ve seen in modern basketball cards. <\/p>\n

Topps offered boxes at $7,499.99 each<\/strong> through its preorder, with eight total cards and six autographs per box. At nearly $1,000 per card before the box is even opened, Definitive is clearly designed for high-end collectors and breakers, not the typical hobby buyer.<\/p>\n

At least Topps has built the checklist to match that ambition. Cooper Flagg, Dylan Harper and Kon Knueppel headline the rookie class, while LeBron James, Stephen Curry, Nikola Joki\u0107 and other stars appear throughout the autograph lineup. Rookie Patch Autographs, framed on-card autos, triple autographs, and game-used Nameplate cards give Definitive the type of cards that can generate massive sales. <\/p>\n

The Nameplates concept might be particularly fun: collectors can theoretically piece together complete game-used jersey names from players such as Victor Wembanyama. Definitive won\u2019t be for everyone \u2014 or almost anyone \u2014 but some of September\u2019s biggest individual cards could come from these boxes.<\/p>\n

\"2025-26<\/p>\n

2025-26 Panini Noir Basketball \u2013 September 18<\/p>\n

Just one day after Topps Definitive arrives, another high-end basketball product joins the calendar. 2025-26 Panini Noir Basketball is scheduled for September 18, with boxes generally preselling between roughly $740 and $850. Each eight-card box contains five autographs, one memorabilia card and two additional base cards, parallels or inserts.<\/p>\n

Noir has always leaned heavily into distinctive design and premium autographs, and that continues this year. Spotlight Signatures and Sneaker Spotlight Signatures return alongside newer autograph sets such as Captions, Dual Signatures and Lucky Endorsements. <\/p>\n

Panini is also emphasizing autograph content from members of the 2025 rookie class, including V.J. Edgecombe, Tre Johnson and Jeremiah Fears. With five autographs in an eight-card box, Noir offers a very different value proposition from Definitive. It is still undeniably expensive, but collectors at least know the majority of the box will consist of hits.<\/p>\n

2025-26 Topps Pristine Basketball \u2013 September 24<\/p>\n

One week after Definitive, Topps brings back a basketball brand collectors haven\u2019t seen in roughly two decades<\/strong>. 2025-26 Topps Pristine Basketball releases September 24, with Topps setting its Hobby preorder price at $779.99. Boxes contain six seven-card packs plus three encased hits: two on-card autographs and one autograph relic.<\/p>\n

Pristine is particularly interesting because it fills a space between mainstream Chrome products and absurdly expensive releases like Definitive. The product uses the clean chromium look traditionally associated with Pristine while including a 150-card base set, refractors, inserts, dual autographs, and autograph relics. <\/p>\n

Nearly $800 is still a substantial buy-in, but three encased autograph hits give collectors something tangible to chase. After Topps\u2019 return to licensed NBA cards created an enormous number of new products, Pristine has a chance to distinguish itself if collectors embrace the revived brand.<\/p>\n

2026 Panini Prizm WNBA Basketball \u2013 September 25<\/p>\n

If Donruss is the appetizer, this is the main event for WNBA collectors. 2026 Panini Prizm WNBA Basketball is scheduled for September 25, with Hobby boxes currently available for around $400. Boxes contain 144 cards, including two autographs, 24 Prizms and 10 inserts. The base checklist also expands to 200 cards after sitting at 150 in 2025.<\/p>\n

The rookie class should be the biggest reason to watch this release. No. 1 overall pick Azzi Fudd entered the league with considerable collector recognition from her time at UConn, while Olivia Miles has quickly developed into another significant rookie chase. <\/p>\n

Panini is also bringing back Color Blast and adding the ultra-rare Sublime insert to WNBA Prizm for the first time. At $400 per box, collectors are paying a significant premium for the Prizm name, but historically this is the Panini WNBA product most likely to produce the rookie parallels that matter long-term. <\/p>\n

Of all the September basketball releases, Prizm WNBA may have the most straightforward investment appeal.<\/p>\n

2026 Topps x KAWS Baseball \u2013 September 28<\/p>\n

One of September\u2019s strangest and potentially most collectible baseball products arrives September 28<\/strong>. Topps x KAWS Baseball pairs MLB with internationally recognized artist Brian Donnelly, better known as KAWS. The product originally sold for just $124.99 per box through Topps, but boxes have since jumped into the $400-$450 range on the secondary market. <\/p>\n

Each box contains only 12 cards spread across three packs, with every pack delivering either a parallel, KAWS Creations insert, short print or autograph.<\/p>\n

The 60-card checklist includes Shohei Ohtani, Aaron Judge, Bobby Witt Jr., Mike Trout, Derek Jeter, Ken Griffey Jr. and a mix of other stars, rookies and legends. KAWS\u2019 signature \u201cXX\u201d artwork is incorporated throughout the design, while numbered parallels run from Aqua \/199 down to Foilfractor 1\/1s. <\/p>\n

The biggest attraction could be the autograph checklist: Ohtani, Judge, Jeter, Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Roki Sasaki have hard-signed versions, while KAWS himself has extremely scarce autographs. Artist collaborations can be volatile investments, especially once the initial hype wears off, but the enormous gap between the $124.99 original price and $400-plus presales makes this one of September\u2019s most fascinating products to watch.<\/p>\n

2026 Topps Chrome Tennis \u2013 September 30<\/p>\n

Finally, September closes with a release that may fly under the radar. 2026 Topps Chrome Tennis<\/strong> has been listed for September 30, with Topps opening Hobby preorders at just $94.99. Boxes contain 12 packs of eight cards and guarantee two Chrome autographs, making this one of the more affordable two-autograph Hobby products on the market.<\/p>\n

The checklist is where things get interesting. Topps has assembled current stars, young players and legends, with autograph possibilities including Coco Gauff, Carlos Alcaraz, Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Steffi Graf. New Courtscripts Signatures and Clay Court Masters autographs join established Chrome parallels, while Game. <\/p>\n

Set. Match., Helix and Solus provide short-print insert chases. Tennis cards are still much smaller than the traditional four major U.S. sports, but the combination of recognizable international stars, two autos per box and a sub-$100 original preorder price makes Chrome Tennis one of September\u2019s most intriguing value plays.<\/p>\n

\"2026<\/p>\n

A big month for basketball card collectors<\/p>\n

September doesn\u2019t necessarily have the sheer number of mainstream baseball releases we see during parts of the summer, but the quality at the top of the calendar is strong. Bowman Chrome is easily the month\u2019s most important prospect release, while Topps x KAWS offers something completely different for baseball collectors.<\/p>\n

But September really belongs to basketball. Donruss and Prizm give WNBA collectors two chances at the 2026 rookie class, while Pristine returns after a lengthy absence, Noir provides a hit-heavy high-end option and Definitive pushes premium NBA cards to another level entirely.<\/p>\n

For collectors deciding where to spend their money, Bowman Chrome and Prizm WNBA probably have the clearest established hobby identities<\/strong>, while Artifacts and Topps Chrome Tennis offer more approachable entry points. At the opposite end of the spectrum, Definitive will be fascinating to watch in breaks even if almost no individual collector has any business opening a $7,500 box.<\/p>\n

And then there is Topps x KAWS \u2014 potentially one of September\u2019s biggest wild cards. At its original $124.99 price, it looked like an interesting art-driven release.
