\n\tHarden went on to thank The Pitt\u2018s executive producers, including John Wells and star Noah Wyle. <\/p>\n
\n\t\u201cThey hired me and believed in my talent \u2026 and the reason I stayed around was because I was good,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n
\n\tBackstage, Harden reminisced about the beginning of his career.<\/p>\n
\n\t\u201cI\u2019ve been in the business since 1974, that\u2019s the first time I ever spoke in a film; it was a movie called Three Days of the Condor with Robert Redford and Faye Dunaway,\u201d he said about the Sydney Pollack feature released in 1975. \u201cFrom then I\u2019ve just been doing my thing, trying to work where I could. I got some beautiful breaks.\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\tThat included a recurring role on the Norman Lear sitcom The Jeffersons from 1977-1979. <\/p>\n
\n\tHe followed it with a leading role opposite the late Bette Davis in the 1980 TV movie White Mama. It centered on a poor, elderly white woman (Davis) befriended by a neighborhood kid (Harden).<\/p>\n
\n\tAccepting the Emmy onstage, Harden dedicated the award to Davis, who received an Emmy nomination for her performance in White Mama but didn\u2019t win. (She has an Emmy and two Oscars to her name.)<\/p>\n
\n\t\u201cWe didn\u2019t make it then but this one is for us!\u201d Harden said.<\/p>\n
\n\tThe Pitt marked the biggest TV series role in Harden\u2019s career, spanning 11 episodes over two seasons. Backstage, he spoke about how he found out that his character on The Pitt would die in Season 2.<\/p>\n
\n\t\u201cOne time I said to Noah, am I gonna die because all the wardrobe people and everybody\u2019s stopping me and they\u2019re crying and I\u2019m saying, what\u2019s going on? I plan on being here five years! That\u2019s just five days in The Pitt world,\u201d Harden said of the medical drama whose seasons take place over the course of a single shift each.<\/p>\n
\n\t\u201cNoah said, \u2018Sit right here,\u2019 and he said, \u2018America\u2019s gonna cry for you,\u2019 and he wasn\u2019t lying,\u201d he added. \u201cHe just said, \u2018Trust me.’\u201d<\/p>\n
