A suspicious package has prompted a lockdown of U.S. Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton in North San Diego County. <\/p>\n
The package was found outside Camp Pendleton’s main gate near Harbor and San Rafael drives. All gates from Interstate 5 onto the military base were closed due to the investigation, the Oceanside Police Department said. <\/p>\n
The closures prompted a SigAlert on Interstate 5 at about 4:45 a.m., according to California Highway Patrol communication. Oceanside police advised drivers to expect heavy traffic in the area and to find alternative routes. <\/p>\n
Little details were provided about the package that prompted the closure. NBC 7 is awaiting more details from Oceanside police and the U.S. Marine Corps. <\/p>\n
