The Henderson intersection with Belknap Street is just south of the Trinity River on the west side of downtown near Tarrant County College\u2019s Trinity River Campus; Weatherford is the next block south. Henderson is a busy north-south street, while Weatherford and Belknap are an east-west one-way pair, which may contribute to crashes.<\/p>\n
The study cited \u201clane confusion on the one-way pair\u201d and found that 14% of vehicles were heading straight on those roads when they hit an adjacent car turning left. Across the city, about 31% of intersection crashes involved a vehicle turning left.<\/p>\n

The analysis also noted that 143 crashes occurred where Belknap and Weatherford meet Grove Street, on the other end of downtown from Henderson. Those accidents resulted in 33 injuries.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy main advice for (a) motorist at any intersection is to slow down and always be aware of your surrounding(s) while crossing it,\u201d police officer Daniel Segura wrote in an email to the Fort Worth Report.<\/p>\n
Although many accidents occurred at dawn or dusk when visibility is limited, the study noted the worst time for accidents is between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. Fridays are the worst day for accidents, according to the study.<\/p>\n

- Trinity Boulevard at State Highway 360: 142 crashes, 50 injuries<\/li>\n
- East Berry Street at I-35W: 130 crashes, 45 injuries, one death<\/li>\n
- South Hulen Street at I-20 and Southwest Boulevard: 126 crashes, 56 injuries<\/li>\n
- West Risinger Road and South Hulen Street: 105 crashes, 49 injuries<\/li>\n
- Overton Ridge Boulevard at Chisholm Trail Parkway: 100 crashes, 46 injuries<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
Five crashes occurred where a city street crosses a freeway frontage road and were due to drivers speeding while exiting a freeway, the study showed.\u00a0<\/p>\n
In the Fort Worth Stockyards, the number of crashes at North Main and NW 28th streets climbed faster than any other intersection in the city\u2019s top 10. The study showed most of those occurred during weekday afternoon rush hour.<\/p>\n
Pedestrians were involved in 2% of crashes, causing 157 deaths citywide and 31 deaths at intersections.<\/p>\n

Garcia | Fort Worth Report)<\/p>\nIn November 2025, the Fort Worth City Council adopted a Vision Zero Safety Action Plan<\/a> that includes recommendations to study safety at the top 50 crash intersections as well as studying speeds on residential and collector roads. The city received a $524,382 grant from the Federal Highway Administration to fund the safety action plan.<\/p>\n
\u201cVision Zero is a strategy to eliminate all traffic fatalities and severe injuries, while increasing safe, healthy, equitable mobility for all,\u201d city officials wrote in the report.<\/p>\n
In addition, the North Texas Council of Governments partners with cities and school districts to provide funding for Safe Routes to Schools initiatives to develop secure walking and bicycling routes in addition to providing technical assistance, planning support and infrastructure improvement funding.<\/p>\n
On Oct. 7, the council of governments will participate in Walk & Roll to School Day, an event that encourages North Texas schools to promote walking and biking for students.<\/p>\n
\u201cCreating a safe travel environment for our region\u2019s students requires coordinated regional planning alongside community participation,\u201d said Shawn Conrad, program manager for land-use and mobility options for the council of governments. \u201cWhether a student walks, rides a bike, takes the bus or travels in a passenger vehicle, NCTCOG is committed to equipping local communities with the infrastructure and tools needed to prevent crashes and protect our youngest commuters.\u201d<\/p>\n
