It will be the festival\u2019s closing night film on Oct. 10 at Lincoln Center\u2019s Alice Tully Hall.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tInspired by the life of British comedian John Bishop, \u201cIs This Thing On?\u201d follows the break-up of a married couple \u2014 portrayed by Will Arnett and Laura Dern \u2014 who are raising two kids. The husband, Alex, takes a wild career pivot to become a professional stand-up comedian in New York City\u2019s West Village. In a newly revealed first-look image, Arnett\u2019s character is standing wistfully in a comedy club.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tSearchlight is backing the film but hasn\u2019t revealed the theatrical release date. Andra Day, Christine Ebersole, Ciar\u00e1n Hinds, Sean Hayes, Peyton Manning, and Amy Sedaris round out the movie\u2019s cast.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cWe are honored and humbled to premiere our film at the New York Film Festival,\u201d Cooper said. \u201cEarlier this year we had the wonderful opportunity to shoot this story all throughout the city, so it\u2019s very exciting to debut it on the closing evening of the festival.
