{"id":104973,"date":"2025-07-30T14:05:12","date_gmt":"2025-07-30T14:05:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/104973\/"},"modified":"2025-07-30T14:05:12","modified_gmt":"2025-07-30T14:05:12","slug":"jasmine-paolini-reacts-after-setting-unwanted-personal-record-during-shock-canadian-open-loss","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/104973\/","title":{"rendered":"Jasmine Paolini reacts after setting unwanted personal record during shock Canadian Open loss"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Jasmine Paolini entered the Canadian Open looking to bounce back from a poor Wimbledon campaign.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Italian reached the final at the All-England Club in 2024, but <a href=\"https:\/\/tennishead.net\/jasmine-paolini-explains-what-she-would-now-have-changed-about-her-buildup-to-wimbledon-after-her-second-round-defeat\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Paolini suffered a shock second-round loss at Wimbledon<\/a> this season.<\/p>\n<p>She squandered a one-set lead in that match and the same thing occurred in Montreal when Paolini took on qualifier Aoi Ito.<\/p>\n<p>The Italian was the heavy favourite going into the match and she opened up a commanding lead, but Ito had other ideas.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/GettyImages-2226952458-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Jasmine Paolini hits a backhand during her opening match at the 2025 National Bank Open\" class=\"wp-image-316224\" \/>Photo by David Kirouac\/Icon Sportswire via Getty ImagesJasmine Paolini suffers shock defeat at the Canadian Open and set a record in the process<\/p>\n<p>Jasmine Paolini opened up a 6-2, 4-1 lead against Ito and looked to be cruising into the next round.<\/p>\n<p>But the 2024 <a href=\"https:\/\/tennishead.net\/tag\/french-open\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">French Open<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/tennishead.net\/tag\/wimbledon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wimbledon<\/a> runner-up relinquished control of the match as Ito grew in confidence and began putting more balls into the court and began playing tricky slice shots which forced Paolini off balance.<\/p>\n<p>Paolini began to hit an avalanche of unforced errors but despite her inconsistent game, she earned a match point while leading 5-4, but she was unable to capitalise.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>The contest was decided by a final set tiebreak and it was Ito who prevailed and sealed a 2-6, 7-5, 7-6 victory in two hours and 27 minutes.<\/p>\n<p>Paolini hit 67 unforced errors during the match, which is her highest number for a <a href=\"https:\/\/tennishead.net\/tag\/wta\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WTA Tour<\/a> match this season. This is now her second successive loss and she took to social media platform X to react to the news.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDidn\u2019t have it today, but the work goes on,\u201d Paolini said, as she looks ahead to her next tournament, the Cincinnati Masters.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"636\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/GettyImages-2226984795-1024x636.jpg\" alt=\"Aoi hits a forehand against Jasmine Paolini at the WTA 1000 National Bank Open presented by Rogers\" class=\"wp-image-316226\" \/>Photo by Robert Prange\/Getty ImagesAoi Ito secures first career top 10 by beating Jasmine Paolini in Montreal<\/p>\n<p>There were eight breaks of serve in the third set between Ito and Paolini, but Ito outlasted her opponent and achieved something for the first time.<\/p>\n<p>She registered her first career win over a top 10 player and the Japanese\u2019s fine tournament continues.<\/p>\n<p>The 21-year-old successfully qualified for the main draw and after beating Paolini she will now face Spain\u2019s Jessica Bouzas Maneiro.<\/p>\n<p>She now has two WTA 1000 main draw appearances to her name, having had none before arriving in Canada.
