HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) — Eyewitness News obtained video showing a crash that deputies said is the result of a chase in northwest Harris County, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office said.<\/p>\n
Witness video shows a man in a striped shirt running away from his wrecked car into a wooded area on Jones Road with deputies on his heels.<\/p>\n
“‘Oh my god, is this a chase?’ I was kind of being half-serious about it, and it turned out to be an actual chase,” Drew Anderson said, sharing his reaction from when the crash happened while he was working at nearby Oregon Automotive.<\/p>\n
In surveillance video from the auto body shop, you see a black Honda Civic speed down White Oak Bend Drive, narrowly missing a woman as she crossed the road.<\/p>\n
Without slowing, the Honda drives into moving lanes of traffic on Jones Road, where it is T-boned by a grey Nissan SUV.<\/p>\n
“It almost sounded like a loud thunder crash out there,” Anderson said.<\/p>\n
A second camera angle captures the moments the driver of the Honda jumps out of the car and runs into a nearby wooded area where law enforcement said he gave up.<\/p>\n
“Yeah, I think he kind of began running, and just kind of ran out of energy and gave up,” HCSO Sgt. Sean Daniels said.<\/p>\n
Investigators said the chase started near the Cy-Fair ISD football stadium on the 11000 block of Bobcat Road, when the suspect rolled up his window while passing a deputy, which the deputy found suspicious, according to Daniels.<\/p>\n
Daniels said the deputy ran the driver’s registration, found it had expired, and tried to pull the Honda over, but the driver took off.<\/p>\n
“It’s just ridiculous; it’s not worth it for people to get hurt, cars to get damaged, all the trouble it caused; it’s not worth it,” witness Laura Oregon said.<\/p>\n
The chase lasted about 13 minutes and spanned six miles, according to Daniels, who said it mostly went through a neighborhood.<\/p>\n
Neither the suspect nor the driver of the other vehicle was seriously hurt<\/p>\n
HCSO did not release the name of the fleeing driver yet but did say he is charged with evading a motor vehicle, failure to stop and render aid, and possession of a controlled substance.
