HOUSTON, Texas (KBTX) – Two Houston-area men are facing charges after a chase through New Braunfels that ended with a K-9 and drone chase, according to NBPD.<\/p>\n
Police say the two attacked a woman as she got out of her car after a trip to the bank and tried to steal her purse.<\/p>\n
Christian Woods, 20, of Houston, and Mekhi McKinstry, 22, of Richmond, are both charged with aggravated robbery and evading arrest or detention.<\/p>\n
New Braunfels police said the woman had just returned home around 10:15 a.m. Sept. 3, when the two men attacked her. They took off in a greenish-yellow Chevrolet Trax.<\/p>\n
Officers ran the car\u2019s plate through the department\u2019s license plate reader system and picked up its trail as it turned onto an access road near I-35. When officers tried to pull the car over, the driver kept going until stopping at a gas station off a nearby highway loop \u2014 then both men bailed out and ran.<\/p>\n
One was caught quickly. The other made it into a nearby wooded area before K-9 and drone units, with help from the Comal County Sheriff\u2019s Office, tracked him down. He was taken into custody without incident.<\/p>\n
Both men were booked into the Comal County Jail. The woman\u2019s injuries weren\u2019t serious enough to need a hospital visit, police said. The investigation is still open, and more charges could follow.<\/p>\n
Police say this fits a growing trend they\u2019re calling \u201cbank jugging.\u201d People stake out banks or ATMs, watch who withdraws cash, then follow them to steal it later, either by breaking into their car or robbing them outright.<\/p>\n
