{"id":1050595,"date":"2026-09-08T09:32:11","date_gmt":"2026-09-08T09:32:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/1050595\/"},"modified":"2026-09-08T09:32:11","modified_gmt":"2026-09-08T09:32:11","slug":"virtual-monarch-butterfly-migration-program-hosted-by-mdc-state-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/1050595\/","title":{"rendered":"Virtual monarch butterfly migration program hosted by MDC | State News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Missouri Department of Conservation will host a virtual program Sept. 12 to teach participants how to create butterfly waystations and learn about monarch migration.<\/p>\n<p>The online program, \u201cMonarchs and Butterfly Waystations,\u201d will run from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, according to a news release from the department.<\/p>\n<p>Naturalist Jessie Ballard will discuss how people can create waystations that provide monarch butterflies with resources to reproduce and sustain their migration.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJoin us to learn more about how to create a waystation and the migration of monarch butterflies before they quietly flutter away to their winter hibernaculum in Mexico,\u201d Ballard said in the release.<\/p>\n<p>A hibernaculum is a place where an animal takes shelter during the winter. Monarchs migrate to Mexico for the winter before returning north.<\/p>\n<p>Monarch waystations provide milkweed, nectar plants and other resources needed by monarchs throughout their life cycle and migration, according to Monarch Watch.<\/p>\n<p>The program is recommended for people ages 10 and older and will be livestreamed only. Registration is required through the Missouri Department of Conservation&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/mdc-event-web.s3licensing.com\/Event\/EventDetails\/220355\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">online event page<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The department offers additional virtual and in-person programs throughout the year.
