ORANGE PARK, Fla. \u2014 The Orange Park Police Department has launched a pilot initiative called the Strategic Enforcement Unit to address community concerns and emerging crime issues.<\/p>\n
According to the department, the Strategic Enforcement Unit (SEU) will utilize specially trained, highly proactive officers. On designated days each month, the officers will \u201cbe freed from routine calls for service and instead focus on identifying and addressing problems before they escalate.\u201d <\/p>\n
According to the department, the program is structured to operate without hiring additional personnel or increasing budget costs.<\/p>\n
The unit\u2019s operations focus on traffic enforcement, DUI enforcement, narcotics interdiction and proactive criminal patrol. Officers will also maintain a presence in areas experiencing property crime or other emerging concerns.<\/p>\n
During the unit\u2019s initial shifts, two officers conducted more than 80 traffic stops for violations in areas that had received frequent community complaints. <\/p>\n
The Police Department reported that officers also made one narcotics arrest during those early shifts.<\/p>\n
