Scenic Corner \u2013 stock.adobe.com<\/p>\n<p>Gunnison Beach has <a href=\"https:\/\/centraljersey.com\/entertainment\/gunnison-beach\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">been a favorite of naked New Jerseyans since the \u201970s<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>However, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nps.gov\/places\/000\/sandy-hook-beach-g-gunnison-beach.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">National Park Service advises<\/a> that beach bums keep a close eye on posted signs to ensure they\u2019re not <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/07\/28\/lifestyle\/french-beach-town-gets-tough-on-half-naked-tourists\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">caught wandering au naturel out of bounds<\/a>, as they could be slapped with a disorderly conduct charge.<\/p>\n<p>The sandy stretch has plenty of signs about the clothing-optional culture. During the summer months, beachgoers can hop on a ferry from lower Manhattan to get to Sandy Hook in an hour or so. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/05\/22\/lifestyle\/this-big-beautiful-beach-near-nyc-was-just-named-the-best-in-the-us\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">New York has its own highly-ranked beaches <\/a>to be sure, but this season, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/05\/26\/lifestyle\/a-hamptons-girls-weekend-comes-with-an-insane-price-tag\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">the most sought-after spots in the Hamptons have become costlier and more crowded than ever before<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>A simple weekend getaway can cost thousands of dollars, plus hours on the highways in traffic. <\/p>\n<p>Aside from the New Jersey beach that took bronze, sandy spots in South Carolina and California fared favorably.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, aside from Gunnison, literally no other beaches beat out the top-tier Palmetto and Golden State shores. <\/p>\n<p>While these hidden gem spots may boast sprawling, crowd-free sands, many listed areas \u2014 Gunnison Beach included \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/04\/19\/us-news\/feds-failure-to-fix-rockaway-beach-safety-issues-blamed-for-surfing-death-of-filmmaker\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">do not have lifeguards on duty<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Top underrated beaches in the U.S. in 2025<\/p>\n<ol id=\"mntl-sc-block_19-0\">\n<li>Vereen Memorial Park, South Carolina<\/li>\n<li>Driftwood Beach, South Carolina<\/li>\n<li>Gunnison Beach, New Jersey<\/li>\n<li>Morris Island, South Carolina<\/li>\n<li>Torrey Pines City Beach, California<\/li>\n<li>Caswell Beach, North Carolina<\/li>\n<li>Dana Strands Beach, California\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Pirates Cove Beach, California\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Station 22 \u2013 Public Beach Access, South Carolina<\/li>\n<li>Edisto Beach State Park Campground, South Carolina<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Amid a wave of high-profile drownings as a result of coastal rip currents, experts advise beachgoers to monitor weather and wave conditions closely. <\/p>\n<p>Kaitlin Krause, the founder of the NYC-based rip current education non-profit Rising Tide Effect, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/07\/23\/lifestyle\/malcolm-jamal-warner-death-raises-swimming-safety-fears-how-to-avoid-drowning-in-a-rip-current\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">previously told The Post<\/a> that \u201cuntrained rescuers often become victims themselves,\u201d and advised onlookers to call 911 immediately, and said that \u201cif you must assist, throw something that floats, like a life ring, buoy or cooler.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Sun\u2019s out, buns out.
