The contract pays him $4.25MM in 2025-26 and $6.5MM each in 2026-27 and 2027-28, according to <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/WiebesWorld\/status\/1950554172127863139\">Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Free Press<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>7:06 a.m.: <\/strong>The Jets have agreed to a three-year deal with defenseman\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/sambedy01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.prohockeyrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-07-30_hr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Dylan Samberg<\/a><\/strong>, avoiding his arbitration hearing that was set for later today, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/WPGMurat\/status\/1950502949857415302\">Murat Ates of The Athletic<\/a> was first to report. The only restricted free agent so far to even get to the point of swapping arbitration figures with his club lands a $5.75MM AAV for a total value of $17.25MM.<\/p>\n<p>Samberg wasn\u2019t under team control past this offseason, so he was only eligible for a one-year deal had the two sides needed their hearing to come to terms. He lands an extra two years of security and will become an unrestricted free agent in 2028 \u2013 quite close to his likely career peak at age 29 \u2013 and lands a salary quite close to his <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.prohockeyrumors.com\/2025\/07\/arbitration-breakdown-dylan-samberg.html\" rel=\"noopener\">reported $6MM filing<\/a> in the process. With Samberg now under contract, the Jets have avoided arbitration hearings with their entire class: Samberg,\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/barromo01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.prohockeyrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-07-30_hr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Morgan Barron<\/a><\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/v\/vilarga01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.prohockeyrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-07-30_hr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Gabriel Vilardi<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Samberg, 26, has put up monster defensive results from the jump since becoming a full-time NHLer in 2022-23, but only last season did he prove he could carry that over into top-four minutes. In 60 appearances, he logged a career-high 6-14\u201320 scoring line with a +34 rating, leading the Jets and ranking seventh in the league. He received his toughest defensive deployment to date (58.6 dZS% at even strength) but flourished as Winnipeg\u2019s No. 2 lefty behind <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/morrijo04.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.prohockeyrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-07-30_hr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Josh Morrissey<\/a><\/strong>, helping anchor their second pairing with\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/p\/pionkne01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.prohockeyrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-07-30_hr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Neal Pionk<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>while posting a 51.1 CF% and 55.0 xGF%.<\/p>\n<p>For a Jets team whose defensive success over the past few seasons has been driven more by goaltender\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/h\/helleco01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.prohockeyrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-07-30_hr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Connor Hellebuyck<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>than the team\u2019s possession play, those are great numbers. He averaged 21:08 per game last season, and without any meaningful changes on Winnipeg\u2019s blue line this summer, he\u2019s in line for that kind of deployment presumably for the life of this deal.<\/p>\n<p>Putting contracts signed under the pressure of a looming arbitration hearing into context isn\u2019t always a perfect art, but the end result here isn\u2019t too far off from what past comparables projected. <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/spreadsheets\/d\/1WuCp8WHgCaTAijtVsww-C-1qmdBdNBiTbDIPdJr_Fwo\/edit?gid=1769332179#gid=1769332179\" rel=\"noopener\">AFP Analytics<\/a> projected a five-year, $5.2MM AAV agreement for Samberg at the beginning of the offseason. That would make this shorter-term pact look a tad pricey, but that figure didn\u2019t take into account the rash of rich deals that have been handed out to big stay-at-home lefties this summer. Considering\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/h\/hagueni01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.prohockeyrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-07-30_hr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Nicolas Hague<\/a><\/strong>\u2019s <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.prohockeyrumors.com\/2025\/06\/predators-acquire-nicolas-hague-sign-four-year-extension.html\" rel=\"noopener\">four-year, $5.5MM AAV deal<\/a> and\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/bahlke01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.prohockeyrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-07-30_hr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Kevin Bahl<\/a><\/strong>\u2019s <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/puckpedia.com\/player\/kevin-bahl\" rel=\"noopener\">six-year, $5.35MM contract<\/a>, the deal is within range, even if the Jets may have paid a small premium to ensure they retain him past this season.<\/p>\n<p>With that, Maple Leafs winger\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/r\/roberni01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.prohockeyrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-07-30_hr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Nicholas Robertson<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>has the only open arbitration case.
