The Philadelphia Orchestra will open its 2026-27 season with Beethoven\u2019s Ninth Symphony, four featured singers, the Philadelphia Symphonic Choir and a U.S. premiere Thursday, Sept. 24.<\/p>\n
The 7 p.m. Opening Night concert at Marian Anderson Hall will begin with the U.S. premiere of Joe Hisaishi\u2019s \u201cOrbis,\u201d a companion piece inspired by Beethoven\u2019s Ninth. The symphony will follow, building toward \u201cOde to Joy,\u201d the famous melody heard during its choral finale.<\/p>\n
Singers Leah Hawkins, J\u2019Nai Bridges, Issachah Savage and Ryan Speedo Green will join the Philadelphia Symphonic Choir and orchestra for the performance. Hawkins and Savage are Philadelphia natives, and Bridges is a graduate and visiting faculty member at the Curtis Institute of Music.<\/p>\n
Opening Night will begin Yannick N\u00e9zet-S\u00e9guin\u2019s 15th season as the orchestra\u2019s music and artistic director. It follows the ensemble\u2019s 125th anniversary season and coincides with the Philadelphia Symphonic Choir\u2019s 10th anniversary.<\/p>\n
N\u00e9zet-S\u00e9guin and the orchestra\u2019s musicians are donating their services for the concert, which benefits the Musicians\u2019 Retirement Fund.<\/p>\n
