{"id":1053532,"date":"2026-09-09T19:15:21","date_gmt":"2026-09-09T19:15:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/1053532\/"},"modified":"2026-09-09T19:15:21","modified_gmt":"2026-09-09T19:15:21","slug":"open-streets-returns-to-rittenhouse-square-in-philadelphia-for-fall-2026","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/1053532\/","title":{"rendered":"Open Streets returns to Rittenhouse Square in Philadelphia for fall 2026"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">Fall is here, and though <a class=\"relative z-1 text-blue-mid hover:shadow-lightmode\" data-link-type=\"article-body\" href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/life\/outdoors\/fall-foliage-2026-philadelphia-forecast-places-20260908.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/life\/outdoors\/fall-foliage-2026-philadelphia-forecast-places-20260908.html\">peak foliage is yet to come<\/a>, another autumn staple is waiting around the corner: The Center City District\u2019s open streets program. <\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">Between Sept. 13 and Oct. 25, the street closure program shuts down car access on Sundays<b> <\/b>to eight blocks in the Rittenhouse Square area to let pedestrians enjoy more of the urban space.<\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">Open streets runs along Walnut Street from Broad to 19th Streets and on 18th Street between Locust and Chestnut Streets.<\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Philadelphians will be able to walk on the car lanes, and have access to sidewalk retail and outdoor dining \u2014 featuring <a class=\"relative z-1 text-blue-mid hover:shadow-lightmode\" data-link-type=\"article-body\" href=\"https:\/\/centercityphila.org\/explore\/open-streets-ww\/?mc_cid=11b83a6562&amp;mc_eid=e88798f598\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">local vendors<\/a> with special promotions or exclusive experiences, according to the Center City District. <\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">Every Sunday brings <a class=\"relative z-1 text-blue-mid hover:shadow-lightmode\" data-link-type=\"article-body\" href=\"https:\/\/centercityphila.org\/explore\/open-streets-ww\/?mc_cid=11b83a6562&amp;mc_eid=e88798f598\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">different activities<\/a>, including double dutch lessons, live music, mini golf, and broadcast of the <a class=\"relative z-1 text-blue-mid hover:shadow-lightmode\" data-link-type=\"article-body\" href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/eagles\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Eagles games<\/a> at the Fulton Fun Zone at 18th and Chestnut Streets.<\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">Two things the event won\u2019t have are bathrooms and rain dates, so plan accordingly. <\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">Most activities are wheelchair accessible. However, bikes, e-bikes, scooters, skateboards, and similar devices can only be in the area if they are walked through the street. <\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">Sponsored by Fulton Bank, the program has been in place since 2024, bringing more than <a class=\"relative z-1 text-blue-mid hover:shadow-lightmode\" data-link-type=\"article-body\" href=\"https:\/\/centercityphila.org\/press-release\/open-streets-returns-fall-2026\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">10,500 visitors<\/a> each Sunday, according to the Center City District. <\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">Cross streets such as 15th, 16th, 17th, and 19th streets will remain open to cars; as will the 1700 and 1800 blocks of Sansom Street. <\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">Road Closures and parking restrictions begin Sunday at 7 a.m. and go on until 6 p.m.<\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">Planning on taking SEPTA? From 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., detours will be in place for routes 9, 12, 21 and 42.
