The only problem, the bridge\u2019s structure has been in disrepair, with Jacksonville city officials saying the state has no plans for repairs on the horizon.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cI was told directly that they just intended to let this thing go until the bridge collapses,\u201d Jacksonville city councilman Matt Carlucci outlined Wednesday morning.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\"><b>Read: <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.actionnewsjax.com\/news\/local\/atlantic-beach-police-looking-driver-who-fled-traffic-stop\/2B7RID5VMVHEPNTSUCNH7K2GA4\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Atlantic Beach Police looking for driver who fled traffic stop;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \"><b>Atlantic Beach Police looking for driver who fled traffic stop<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">This comes as city and state officials outlined in a community meeting at Jacksonville City Hall Wednesday morning that the beloved bridge and pier have faced significant structural deterioration over the years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Members of the community are also now raising concerns about the state park system taking away the pier\u2019s bait station and running water, as well as a large portion of the bridge still being fenced off due to safety concerns.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cIt says that\u2019s a mile-long bridge. At this time, it\u2019s a fourth of a bridge,\u201d Jacksonville resident Leatrice Bell complained Wednesday. \u201cSo they squeezed 200 to 300 people on a fourth of a bridge, then they say it\u2019s problems. Of course, it\u2019s going to be problems.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Now, members of the Jacksonville &amp; Nassau communities, as well as city and state officials, are calling on the Florida Department of Environmental Protection to keep its end of its original agreement with FDOT, the city of Jacksonville, and Nassau County.
