{"id":105594,"date":"2025-07-30T19:28:11","date_gmt":"2025-07-30T19:28:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/105594\/"},"modified":"2025-07-30T19:28:11","modified_gmt":"2025-07-30T19:28:11","slug":"fcc-chairman-brendan-carr-probes-comcast-relations-with-nbc-stations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/105594\/","title":{"rendered":"FCC Chairman Brendan Carr Probes Comcast Relations With NBC Stations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/fcc\/\" id=\"auto-tag_fcc\" data-tag=\"fcc\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">FCC<\/a> Chairman <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/brendan-carr\/\" id=\"auto-tag_brendan-carr\" data-tag=\"brendan-carr\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Brendan Carr<\/a> informed <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/comcast\/\" id=\"auto-tag_comcast\" data-tag=\"comcast\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Comcast<\/a> on Tuesday that he has launched an investigation into the company\u2019s relations with its <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/nbc\/\" id=\"auto-tag_nbc\" data-tag=\"nbc\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">NBC<\/a> affiliates, days after President Trump called for the network to be held \u201caccountable\u201d for favoring the Democratic Party and threatened to revoke broadcast licenses.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tIn a <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/s3.documentcloud.org\/documents\/26036906\/chairman-carr-letter-to-comcast-final-72925.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">letter to Comcast CEO Brian Roberts<\/a>, Carr argued that the national network has increasingly asserted control over local stations, and that that has eroded the public\u2019s trust in news coverage.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cAmericans no longer trust the national news outlets to report fully, accurately, and fairly,\u201d Carr wrote. \u201cThe FCC has an interest in and the authority to promote the public interest and to ensure that local broadcast TV stations retain the economic and operational independence necessary to meet their public interest obligations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe FCC regulates local stations, but does not have direct authority over networks or their programming. Since assuming office, Carr has frequently argued that the FCC has a stake in ensuring that local stations maintain community trust, and also that the national networks are to blame for a decline in trust.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe FCC does have somewhat greater authority over economic arrangements among networks, affiliates and cable companies. Though network-affiliate negotiations are typically a private affair, the agency has occasionally been called upon to intervene in the past.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tA Comcast NBCU spokesperson stated that the company will cooperate in responding to Carr\u2019s questions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cWe are proud that for many decades we have supported local broadcast TV stations with world-class sports and entertainment, enabling them to drive viewership in a media environment that has grown increasingly competitive,\u201d the spokesperson said. \u201cLocal stations are a critical part of Americans\u2019 lives as a trusted source for news and life-saving weather information, and we will continue to invest heavily in this partnership to keep the broadcast business strong.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe letter comes on the heels of the FCC\u2019s approval last week of the Skydance-Paramount merger. As part of that deal, Skydance pledged to install an ombudsman at CBS for two years to field complaints about media bias.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tOn Saturday, President Trump took aim at the other two broadcast networks in a Truth Social post.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cWow, \u2018Concast\u2019s\u2019 NBC is down in viewership almost 28% this year,\u201d Trump wrote. \u201cTheir programming is terrible, their management even worse. They are an arm of the Democrat Party, and should be held accountable for that. Likewise, Fake News ABC!!!\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tHe later wrote: \u201cNetworks aren\u2019t allowed to be political pawns for the Democrat Party. It has become so outrageous that, in my opinion, their licenses could, and should, be revoked! MAGA.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tTrump has also celebrated CBS\u2019 cancellation of \u201cThe Late Show With Stephen Colbert,\u201d and predicted that Jimmy Kimmel and Jimmy Fallon \u2014 of ABC and NBC, respectively \u2014 will be next.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tNewsmax was first to report on the Carr letter. In February, Carr announced a probe of diversity, equity and inclusion policies at Comcast.
