William Wade via Storyful<\/p>\n<p>Resident Wills Wade was watching the storm from his balcony when he saw the baby raccoon rocket onto the scene.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI watched him come flying out of the storm drain into the river and perfectly washed up on the rock,\u201d Wade told the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rgj.com\/story\/news\/2025\/07\/28\/raccoon-stranded-on-rock-as-truckee-river-rises-2-feet-in-record-rain\/85414703007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Reno Gazette Journal<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>With the waters raging, Wade was unable to help the small raccoon \u2014 and had no choice but to look on as the furry dumpster diver faced its fate.<\/p>\n<p>The drama went down near Reno\u2019s Wingfield Park. goodapp \u2013 stock.adobe.com<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have to save it!\u201d somebody was heard saying in footage Wade took.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe can\u2019t save it,\u201d he replied.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo! Don\u2019t let it die!\u201d the other person said back.<\/p>\n<p>The raccoon is seen making its daring leap into the water. William Wade via Storyful<\/p>\n<p>All the while, the raccoon was pacing about its tiny island in the storm \u2014 then, steeling itself, sprang headlong into the frothing waters.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo way!\u201d the onlookers said, in evident awe.<\/p>\n<p>The raccoon wasn\u2019t seen after being swept by the rushing water. William Wade via Storyful<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOh, he\u2019s getting swept!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The raccoon was instantly <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/06\/19\/us-news\/raccoon-familys-stay-at-a-temporary-airbnb-cut-short-by-animal-control\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wiped away by the rushing water<\/a>, then was seen paddling with its paws for a few moments before being lost from view under an overhanging tree.<\/p>\n<p>The raccoon was able to make it to safety. Val&#8217;s World \u2013 stock.adobe.com<\/p>\n<p>Wade rushed downstairs to see what had become of the critter \u2014 and found it had made it across the river to safety.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI went downstairs and outside to make sure he was okay,\u201d Wade told the Gazette, \u201cand saw he had shaken himself off and was resting.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Later on, onlookers were able to capture the raccoon resting safely. William Wade via Storyful<\/p>\n<p>Reno saw hail and just over half an inch of rain amidst heavy thunderstorms Sunday \u2014 enough to raise the Truckee River by about two feet.<\/p>\n<p>All that water <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/06\/10\/us-news\/raccoon-released-into-a-packed-kentucky-restaurant-in-misguided-plot-for-revenge\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">means the raccoon <\/a>could still be ringing itself out from its daring dash.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"That\u2019s one courageous critter.
