{"id":105979,"date":"2025-07-30T22:47:09","date_gmt":"2025-07-30T22:47:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/105979\/"},"modified":"2025-07-30T22:47:09","modified_gmt":"2025-07-30T22:47:09","slug":"warner-bros-to-layoff-52-people-in-motion-picture-group","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/105979\/","title":{"rendered":"Warner Bros. to layoff 52 people in Motion Picture Group"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Layoffs are hitting the <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/business\/story\/2025-07-28\/warner-bros-to-shed-the-discovery-name\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Warner Bros.<\/a> Motion Picture Group, reducing its staff by 52 people, according to an internal memo to staff Wednesday and a letter sent to California\u2019s  Employment Development Department.<\/p>\n<p>The job cuts, which will affect marketing, distribution, production, strategy, operations and theater ventures, are part of a <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/business\/story\/2025-01-08\/warner-bros-shakes-up-film-studio-leadership\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">larger restructuring<\/a> at Warner Bros. Discovery that began earlier in the year.<\/p>\n<p>Part of the restructuring includes a focus on breaking down the barrier between U.S. and international divisions in marketing and distribution in favor of a \u201cfully global structure,\u201d  the memo announcing the layoffs said. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cAdapting how we work often calls for evolution, and the future of how we run this business has required us to make some very difficult decisions,\u201d Motion Picture Group chairs Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy jointly wrote in the internal memo reviewed by The Times. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the coming weeks and months, we will work with leaders around the world to shape and implement this global operating model in a way that reflects local needs and realities,\u201d the memo stated. <\/p>\n<p>A letter sent to the state Employment Development Department  confirmed 52 employees will be laid off, starting Oct. 4. <\/p>\n<p>Warner Bros. Discovery is burdened with billions in debt, a vestige of Discovery\u2019s takeover of WarnerMedia from AT&amp;T three years ago. Since then, the company has restructured and cut thousands of jobs, and announced it will <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/business\/story\/2025-06-09\/warner-bros-discovery-will-split-into-two-companies\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">divide its assets<\/a> into two publicly traded companies.<\/p>\n<p>In January, leaders in the film division \u2014 veteran marketing chief Josh Goldstine and international film distribution head Andrew Cripps \u2014 left the company in a shake-up to its senior ranks after some 2024 titles underperformed at the box office.<\/p>\n<p>The studio has had more success at the box office this year,  with <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/business\/story\/2025-04-06\/minecraft-opens-with-record-breaking-157-million-domestic-box-office\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cA Minecraft Movie,\u201d<\/a> <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/movies\/story\/2025-04-20\/sinners-gets-a-heavenly-reception\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cSinners\u201d<\/a> and <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/business\/story\/2025-07-13\/superman-revives-dc-at-the-box-office-with-a-122-million-debut\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cSuperman\u201d<\/a> each topping the charts. <\/p>\n<p>The new cuts come just days after Warner Bros. Discovery <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/business\/story\/2025-07-28\/warner-bros-to-shed-the-discovery-name\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">announced additional details<\/a> about its corporate split, saying the separate entities will be called Warner Bros. and Discovery Global and enumerating the properties that will fall under each separate company. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will proudly continue the more than century-long legacy of Warner Bros. through our commitment to bringing culture-defining stories, characters and entertainment to audiences around the world,\u201d Warner Bros. Discovery Chief Executive David Zaslav said in a statement regarding the post-split future of the company.<\/p>\n<p>Warner Bros Discovery shares closed at $13.26, up 1.07% on Wednesday. <\/p>\n<p>Times staff writer Meg James contributed to this report. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Layoffs are hitting the Warner Bros.
