Council passed the motion to fire Anderson with a 10-1 vote, with only Ward 8 Coun. Shanon Zachidniak dissenting.<\/p>\n<p>Zachidniak said she&#8217;s heard from numerous residents that they have no desire to see the City of Regina fire people without cause and then\u00a0pay out severance.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Since I&#8217;ve been elected in 2020,\u00a0we&#8217;ve paid out more than $1,000,000 to folks by firing them without cause and paying them out accordingly. So if we want to talk about being efficient with our money, that&#8217;s a clear way that we could certainly find some savings,&#8221; Zachidniak said.<\/p>\n<p>Anderson has been on leave since April. She was hired on Nov. 1, 2022, becoming the first woman to hold the job, after her predecessor\u00a0Chris Holden\u00a0was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/canada\/saskatchewan\/regina-city-manager-fired-1.6344905\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">abruptly fired two years before his contract expired.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Anderson&#8217;s\u00a0contract term was for five years. Holden received more than $850,000 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/canada\/saskatchewan\/regina-executive-payouts-1.6881266\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">when he was fired in 2022<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The City of Regina&#8217;s entire <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/canada\/saskatchewan\/regina-city-executive-full-turnover-1.7255392\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">executive team has turned over<\/a> since Holden&#8217;s dismissal.<\/p>\n<p>The search for a new city manager is not yet underway, but Zachidniak said she&#8217;s wary of the message sent to possible candidates.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Who is going to\u00a0want to\u00a0come work for our city if we&#8217;ve\u00a0fired the past two city managers without cause?&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>City council also approved a $40-million budget\u00a0increase for Regina&#8217;s planned indoor aquatic facility.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The approval passed in a 9-2 vote, with only Ward 1 Coun. Dan Rashovich and Ward 10 Coun.
