Learner Tien was able to overcome both Denis Shapovalov and the Canadian Open crowd.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Tien is a hot prospect on the ATP Tour<\/a> at just 19 years old and is currently at a career-high ranking of world number 61.<\/p>\n

However, he looked to have a tricky second round match against former top 10 player Shapovalov, who has recently won an ATP title<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Shapovalov has given his verdict on why he lost<\/a> the match, and now Tien<\/a> has revealed what he thought of the Canadian Open<\/a> crowd who were supporting his opponent.<\/p>\n

Shapovalov is one of many Canadian players competing in Toronto<\/a> this year, and had the crowd fully behind him for the first night session match on Centre Court.<\/p>\n

Despite the crowd being in favour of his opponent, Tien was actually very complimentary towards the Toronto crowd and claimed that he did not mind that they were cheering for Shapovalov<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cToronto\u2019s been great, actually,\u201d Tien said in his post-match press conference<\/a>. \u201cYeah, I\u2019m staying in the city downtown, it\u2019s a very nice spot. There\u2019s lots of good food around. It\u2019s not super different from the U.S. from what I\u2019ve seen. It\u2019s been great.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe crowd and everything was super fun. I like those kind of atmospheres where everyone gets into the match. It makes, it\u2019s an extra factor that adds to the match, so I think it\u2019s really fun. <\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t really mind who they were really cheering for, but it just makes the match a bit more exciting.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Three American ATP players have a potential opportunity in the Canadian Open draw<\/p>\n

This win for Tien means that he has reached the third round of a Masters 1000 tournament for the first time in his young career.<\/p>\n

There is now a big opportunity for him and two other American players in his section of the draw.<\/p>\n

Tien, Reilly Opelka<\/a> and Alex Michelsen<\/a> are all competing for one quarterfinal spot where third seed Lorenzo Musetti<\/a> is also in the draw.<\/p>\n

Despite being the favourite to come through this section of the draw, Musetti has won only one of his last four matches.<\/p>\n

Musetti has also never surpassed the third round of the Canadian Open before and has never reached the quarterfinal of any Masters 1000 event played on outdoor hard courts.<\/p>\n

Before Tien can think about the possibility of playing Musetti, he will look to beat his compatriot Opelka.<\/p>\n
