JACKSONVILLE, Fla.<\/strong> \u2013 As prospective students toured the University of North Florida Campus, many may not have been aware of the university\u2019s future vision, that was recently presented in the schools 10-year master plan draft.<\/p>\n

The draft presented by the DLR group to the Board of Trustees, earlier this month, outlined a vision that could transform campus life over the next decade.<\/p>\n

A Greek Village, which would provide dedicated on-campus housing for fraternities and sororities, new academic and research buildings, as well as improvements to safety measures for pedestrians, are among the possible plans within the draft.<\/p>\n

But one of the most talked-about options, is the potential for a football stadium on campus.<\/p>\n

During the presentation, Woody Giles of the DLR group said if the university ever wanted a football stadium on campus, Hodges Stadium could be renovated in the short term to host football games. <\/p>\n

The long term option includes new construction next to the field.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the long term, you see the new buildings next to the field, those would be facilities that would build out more seating, more amenities, more services for the football players, and at that point you would have a dedicated football stadium,\u201d Giles said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a great school, I love it here, but football would make it like ten times better,\u201d said Allan, a UNF freshman. \u201cUCF, USF, UF all have football, and it makes it like ten times better.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sophomore Alyssa Seaman agreed with Allan\u2019s comments. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019ll definitely add like a lot more energy here on campus,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n

A university spokesperson said the draft presents \u201ca visionary yet feasible vision for UNF\u2019s physical campus, aligned with the University\u2019s strategic direction.\u201d<\/p>\n

The spokesperson said it also incorporates feedback from faculty, staff, students and the public. <\/p>\n

The university said the draft will be passed along to government agencies for review.<\/p>\n

News4JAX asked which government agencies will be reviewing the draft, they responded and said they are checking.<\/p>\n

The university said it anticipates bringing the plan\u2019s final version to the Board of Trustees for approval in November.<\/p>\n
