Some say it looked like a mountain lion, officials believe it to be a bobcat.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The animal was spotted at about 7 a.m. Wednesday at the southeast corner of 95th Street and Santa Fe Drive Trail in Lenexa.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\"><a class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/fox4kc.com\/watch-fox4-news-free-on-streaming-tv-devices-by-downloading-wdaf\/?ipid=promo-link-block1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Watch FOX4 News free on streaming TV devices by downloading WDAF+;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\"> Watch FOX4 News free on streaming TV devices by downloading WDAF+ <\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Dan Robinson was sitting in his car getting ready to go in for work at Adams Cable Equipment, Inc. in Lenexa when he spotted the big cat. Robinson provided a photo and a video to FOX4 of what his co-workers thought was a \u201ccougar,\u201d or a mountain lion, walking near a tree line.<\/p>\n<p><a data-ylk=\"ct:story;elm:img;itc:0;\" class=\"stretched-box\" href=\"https:\/\/fox4kc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/2025\/07\/Single-image-for-resizing-11.jpg\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\"><img alt=\"Photo of a what appears to be a mountain lion\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"900\" height=\"472\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"rounded-lg\" style=\"color:transparent\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/1f7423b01f5f517fa63a31dc8113be6c.jpeg\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Residents in Johnson County, Kansas, say they captured photos and video of what appeared to be a mountain lion walking through July 30, 2025.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cAt first, I thought bobcat, because I\u2019ve heard of them being in the area,\u201d Robinson said. \u201cBut after showing the video and to people. Some people said it\u2019s probably a cougar, which I rarely heard about them being around here, but I\u2019m not surprised if they are.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">After reviewing the photo Wednesday afternoon, the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks told FOX4 that it believes the animal is a bobcat based on the length of the tail.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cWhen I saw the tail and the ears, I knew it wasn\u2019t a fox and it had like a snubbed snout to it,\u201d Robinson said. \u201cIt was very feline looking and the way it moved when it finally moved out there, I was like that\u2019s a cat, that\u2019s a big cat.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ksoutdoors.com\/Wildlife-Habitats\/Wildlife-Sightings-in-Kansas\/Mountain-Lions\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:According to the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \"><strong>According to the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks<\/strong><\/a>, mountain lions were once common across the country, including Kansas, but by the late 1800s, mountain lion populations declined significantly due to a number of factors, including hunting and habitat loss.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cI\u2019ve seen them at the zoo, but not in the wild, at work,\u201d Robinson said. \u201cA big cat like that, I haven\u2019t seen anything like that around here. I got out of my car, I was going to follow it, and then I thought for a second, \u2018eh, maybe that\u2019s not such a good idea.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Nowadays, mountain lion sightings are rare. The department says the first confirmed mountain lion in modern times was recorded in Barber County in 2007. Since then, sightings have been confirmed \u201cmore than 100 times,\u201d with many of those reports <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ksnt.com\/kansasoutdoors\/mountain-lion-sightings-rise-in-kansas-heres-where-theyve-been-spotted\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:documented just in the last two years;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \"><strong>documented just in the last two years<\/strong><\/a>, sister station KSNT said earlier this week.
