But those who were previously overpaid by the Social Security Administration <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/money\/2025\/06\/29\/social-security-overpayment-changes-july-2025\/84372927007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">may get smaller benefit checks<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s because the agency was expected to begin withholding 50% of benefits <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/money\/2025\/07\/20\/social-security-benefits-overpayments-july-2025\/85210563007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">for those who have been overpaid<\/a> but have yet to begin repayments.<\/p>\n<p>The SSA hasn&#8217;t released a number of how many recipients may have been overpaid. However, a February 2025 report by <a href=\"https:\/\/oig.ssa.gov\/assets\/uploads\/062405.pdf\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/oig.ssa.gov\/assets\/uploads\/062405.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the SSA&#8217;s Office of the Inspector General<\/a> found the agency overpaid $13.6 billion in Social Security benefits during fiscal years 2020 to 2023. About three-fourths of overpayments (72%) happened because beneficiaries did not successfully report information to SSA that negatively affected their benefits. Such information could include additional salary or retirement earnings and changes in medical condition, such as the end of a disabling condition.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/money\/2025\/06\/18\/social-security-shortfall-benefits-retirement\/84261121007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Social Security<\/a>\u00a0benefits \u2013 paid mostly to recipients who are older or retired \u2013 are typically paid on Wednesdays. If your birthdate falls between the first and 10th days of the month, you are issued payments on the second Wednesday of the month (this month, that&#8217;s Aug. 13), according to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssa.gov\/pubs\/EN-05-10031-2025.pdf?ftag=MSFd61514f\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Social Security Administration\u2019s calendar<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"related-link\"><strong style=\"margin-right:3px\">Social Security: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/money\/personalfinance\/2025\/07\/24\/social-security-checks-smaller-depletion-2033-cut\/85355210007\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Two-income retired couples may lose $18,100 annually in Social Security in 2033<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Subsequent payments go out weekly: recipients born between the 11th and 20th are paid on the third Wednesday (Aug. 20), and those born after the 20th of the month get payments on the fourth Wednesday of the month (Aug. 27), according to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssa.gov\/pubs\/EN-05-10031-2025.pdf?ftag=MSFd61514f\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">SSA calendar<\/a>. Social Security recipients who began getting benefits before May 1997 are paid on Aug. 1.<\/p>\n<p>Social Security payment schedule for August<\/p>\n<p>The Social Security Administration\u2019s yearly schedules of benefit payments for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssa.gov\/pubs\/EN-05-10031-2025.pdf?ftag=MSFd61514f\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">2025<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssa.gov\/pubs\/EN-05-10031-2026.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">2026<\/a>\u00a0are available online, so you can check the calendar for budgeting purposes.<\/p>\n<p>Regular Social Security retirement benefits for the month of July will be sent out on the SSA\u2019s usual schedule:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Wednesday, Aug. 13:<\/strong>\u00a0Birth dates between the first and 10th of the month.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Wednesday, Aug. 20:<\/strong>\u00a0Birth dates between the 11th and 20th of the month.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Wednesday, Aug. 27:<\/strong>\u00a0Birth dates between the 21st and 31st of the month.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"position:absolute;top:0;left:0;right:0;bottom:0;width:100%;height:100%;z-index:2\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/85331864007.jpg\"\/><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"vidplayicon\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gannett-cdn.com\/appservices\/universal-web\/universal\/icons\/icon-play-alt-white.svg\" alt=\"play\" style=\"height:40px;margin:auto 18px auto 27px;width:40px\"\/><\/p>\n<p>More retirees rely on Social Security: AARP<\/p>\n<p>As Social Security turns 90, 65% of retirees now rely on it. Children with qualifying disabilities are also eligible, according to the SSA\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/faq.ssa.gov\/en-us\/Topic\/article\/KA-02274\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">website<\/a>.
