{"id":107465,"date":"2025-07-31T11:54:10","date_gmt":"2025-07-31T11:54:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/107465\/"},"modified":"2025-07-31T11:54:10","modified_gmt":"2025-07-31T11:54:10","slug":"foo-fighters-hire-ilan-rubin-as-new-drummer-after-firing-josh-freese","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/107465\/","title":{"rendered":"Foo Fighters hire Ilan Rubin as new drummer after firing Josh Freese"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Foo Fighters have reportedly found a new drummer.<\/p>\n<p>Two months after parting ways with Josh Freese, sources tell <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/news\/music-news\/foo-fighters-new-drummer-replacing-josh-freese-1236333764\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Hollywood Reporter<\/a> that the \u201cMy Hero\u201d rockers have tapped Ilan Rubin, 37, to take over on drums.<\/p>\n<p>Rubin has worked as the touring drummer for Nine Inch Nails since 2009, and he was inducted into <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2020\/01\/15\/rock-roll-hall-of-fame-2020-inductees-announced-whitney-houston-and-more\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the Rock &amp; Roll Hall of Fame<\/a> with the band back in 2020.<\/p>\n<p>Ilan Rubin was reportedly hired by Foo Fighters as Josh Freese\u2019s replacement. Boston Globe via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>He is also the drummer for Angels &amp; Airwaves and Paramore, as well as previously working with famed composer, singer, and songwriter Danny Elfman.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Freese \u2013 who was <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/05\/16\/entertainment\/foo-fighters-fire-drummer-josh-freese-2-years-after-taylor-hawkins-takeover\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">booted from the Foo Fighters in May<\/a> after two years with the band \u2013 is reportedly joining Nine Inch Nails as their new drummer.<\/p>\n<p>It is currently unclear if Rubin will serve as a full-time member of the Foo Fighters or just work as the \u201cEverlong\u201d group\u2019s touring drummer.<\/p>\n<p>Ilan Rubin reportedly told Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor he recently accepted a new job. NBCU Photo Bank\/NBCUniversal via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>However, he reportedly told Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor that he recently \u201caccepted a job with another band,\u201d per THR.<\/p>\n<p>As for Nine Inch Nails, they posted a picture of Freese, 52, to their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/stories\/nineinchnails\/?hl=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Instagram Story<\/a> on Wednesday with the caption: \u201cLet\u2019s f\u2014ing go.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fans of both rock bands rushed to Instagram following the surprising Rubin and Freese swap.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Josh Freese is allegedly rejoining Nine Inch Nails as its drummer. Samir Hussein\/WireImage<\/p>\n<p>He previously drummed for Nine Inch Nails from late 2005 through 2008. WireImage<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd Josh Freese back with NIN,\u201d one person commented. \u201cA win-win situation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSwap,\u201d wrote another. \u201cWonder if there\u2019s any bad blood.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s a great drummer!\u201d a third fan wrote about Rubin joining the Foo Fighters.<\/p>\n<p>In May, Freese revealed the Foo Fighters decided \u201cto go in a different direction with their drummer.\u201d Getty Images for Harley-Davidson<\/p>\n<p>Freese <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DJuQb14u09w\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">took to social media<\/a> back in May to reveal that he and the Foo Fighters parted ways.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Foo Fighters called me Monday night to let me know they\u2019ve decided \u2018to go in a different direction with their drummer,&#8217;\u201d Freese, who joined the band in 2023 <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/03\/25\/foo-fighters-drummer-taylor-hawkins-dead-at-50\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">after the sudden death of Taylor Hawkins<\/a>, began. \u201cNo reason was given.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRegardless, I enjoyed the past two years with them, both on and off stage,\u201d he continued. \u201cI support whatever they feel is best for the band.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ilan Rubin was indicted into the Rock &amp; Roll Hall of Fame with Nine Inch Nails back in 2020. Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Despite being shocked by Grohl and the \u201cBig Me\u201d band\u2019s decision, Freese said that he wasn\u2019t worried about finding work elsewhere.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn my 40 years of drumming professionally, I\u2019ve never been let go from a band,\u201d he said. \u201cSo while I\u2019m not angry \u2013 just a bit shocked and disappointed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut as most of you know I\u2019ve always worked freelance and bounced between bands so, I\u2019m fine,\u201d Freese concluded. \u201cStay tuned for my \u2018Top 10 reasons Josh got booted from the Foo Fighters\u2019 list.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dave Grohl of Foo Fighters performs at Roskilde Festival 2024. Getty Images for ABA<\/p>\n<p>Freese previously drummed for Nine Inch Nails from late 2005 through 2008, so his return will mark a reunion for \u201cHurt\u201d rockers.<\/p>\n<p>He also drummed for Guns N\u2019 Roses and A Perfect Circle, and has been a member of the Vandals since 1989 and Devo since 1996.<\/p>\n<p>Hawkins, the Foo Fighters\u2019 longtime drummer and Grohl\u2019s closest friend, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/03\/25\/foo-fighters-drummer-taylor-hawkins-dead-at-50\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">was found dead in a Colombian hotel<\/a> in March 2022 while touring with the band.<\/p>\n<p>The band canceled their tour after Taylor Hawkins\u2019 death. Youtube<\/p>\n<p>Despite it first being reported that he had overdosed, the late musician\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/03\/27\/taylor-hawkins-heart-weighed-double-that-of-an-average-man-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">cause of death was cardiovascular collapse<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>He was 50 years old.<\/p>\n<p>Following his passing, the band <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/03\/29\/foo-fighters-cancel-tour-to-heal-after-taylor-hawkins-death\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">canceled their tour to heal<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is with great sadness that Foo Fighters confirm the cancellation of all upcoming tour dates in light of the staggering loss of our brother Taylor Hawkins,\u201d the Foo Fighters\u2019 statement read. \u201cWe\u2019re sorry for and share in the disappointment that we won\u2019t be seeing one another as planned. Instead, let\u2019s take this time to grieve, to heal, to pull our loved ones close, and to appreciate all the music and memories we\u2019ve made together. With Love, Foo Fighters.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The rock band held several tribute shows in honor of Hawkins\u2019 life, including one where his son, Oliver Shane, who was 16 at the time, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/09\/03\/taylor-hawkins-son-oliver-shane-plays-drums-during-foo-fighters-tribute\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">replaced his late dad on the drums<\/a> to play with the iconic group.<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/03\/foo-fighters-cancel-tour-02.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<script async src=\"\/\/www.instagram.com\/embed.js\"><\/script><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The Foo Fighters have reportedly found a new drummer.
