{"id":108303,"date":"2025-07-31T19:19:10","date_gmt":"2025-07-31T19:19:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/108303\/"},"modified":"2025-07-31T19:19:10","modified_gmt":"2025-07-31T19:19:10","slug":"courts-temporarily-restrain-rick-ware-racing-from-closing-150-million-sale","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/108303\/","title":{"rendered":"Courts temporarily restrain Rick Ware Racing from closing $150 million sale"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A judge in North Carolina has sided with Legacy Motor Club, granting their request for a temporary restraining order (TRO) against Rick Ware Racing.<\/p>\n<p>It is the latest development in an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorsport.com\/nascar-cup\/news\/legacy-motor-clubs-files-lawsuit-against-rick-ware-racing\/10708989\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">ongoing lawsuit between the two NASCAR Cup teams<\/a>. Legacy claims it secured a charter from Rick Ware Racing in a signed Charter Purchase Agreement for 2026, alleging that RWR is wrongfully trying to back out of the deal.<\/p>\n<p>In the midst of all this, news arose that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorsport.com\/nascar-cup\/news\/rick-ware-racing-sell-team-tj-puchyr-expand-three-cars\/10736475\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">RWR was moving to sell the entire race team to T.J. Puchyr in a $150 million deal,<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/nascar-rick-ware-racing-puchyr-ccd9b642548cfa30192befea81b15ad3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> as first reported by AP.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>This new TRO will prevent RWR from closing the sale with Puchyr for ten days, with a hearing over a preliminary injunction still to come. No date for that hearing has been set, yet. Legacy must also post a $5 million bond.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The courts recently cautioned Rick Ware&#8217;s team against trying to sell the team while the lawsuit over the disputed charter is ongoing.<\/p>\n<p>Since the initial lawsuit began in April, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorsport.com\/nascar-cup\/news\/rick-ware-racing-countersues-legacy-motor-club-in-charter-dispute\/10734204\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">RWR has taken its own legal action, countersuing Legacy<\/a>, and claiming there is confusion over what charter was for sale and when.<\/p>\n<p>Yet another lawsuit emerged from this dispute as well, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorsport.com\/nascar-cup\/news\/legacy-motor-club-sues-tj-puchyr-for-underhanded-attempt-to-buy-rick-ware-racing\/10742689\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">with Legacy choosing to sue\u00a0Puchyr directly for what they called an &#8220;underhanded attempt&#8221; to purchase RWR<\/a>,\u00a0interfering in their attempt to buy a charter.
