Over the years, there have been many claims made about Ellen DeGeneres being mean<\/a> and the work environment at The Ellen DeGeneres Show<\/a> being toxic. Now, Adam Carolla has opened up about his experience being a guest on her show, and he explained why he believes \u201cpeople were scared\u201d of her.<\/p>\n As DeGeneres makes headlines over her move to the UK<\/a> and political comments, Adam Carolla was asked on After Party with Emily Jashinsky<\/a> if he thinks she\u2019s one of the people who have unraveled because of Donald Trump. In response, he said, \u201cEllen has always been a mean person.\u201d He also compared the energy of her show behind the scenes to other talk shows, like Jay Leno\u2019s and Jimmy Kimmel\u2019s. While he said Kimmel and Leno were \u201claid back,\u201d he believes DeGeneres made people \u201cscared.\u201d As he said:<\/p>\n Ellen\u2019s show, people were scared \u2014 real scared.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n He then went on to tell a story about a time he was a guest on the show. Carolla explained that a segment producer came into his dressing room to discuss the topics he\u2019d talk about on air. He noted that they\u2019d discuss things like \u201cChristmas,\u201d and then he clarified with the comedian that he wouldn\u2019t bring up \u201cbeef or meet.\u201d Carolla confirmed he would not, but the producer returned later to ask again, as he explained:<\/p>\n He goes \u2018You\u2019re not going to talk about meat or beef or anything like that right?\u2019 And I go, \u2018No, I\u2019m not. I\u2019m just going to talk about the stuff we talked about, going on vacation, Christmas with the kids, you know, their anecdotes.\u2019 He goes \u2018Oh, OK, alright, OK, alright.\u2019 And he came back like 20 minutes later, right before I went out [and said] \u2018OK, don\u2019t talk about beef or meat or anything.\u2019 And I was like, \u2018Oh, this guy is scared to death.\u2019 This guy\u2019s scared.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n After that, Adam Carolla doubled down on his opinion, saying he spoke to another employee about their experience working on DeGeneres\u2019 show. Without saying their name, he recalled that he was told they thought she was the \u201cworst person\u201d they\u2019d ever met:<\/p>\n Later on, I talked to someone who signed an NDA, so I won\u2019t say his name, but he wrote for Ellen. I just went, \u2018How\u2019s Ellen?\u2019 And he said, \u2018Worst person, uh, worst person \u2014 not worst person I\u2019ve worked for, worst person I\u2019ve ever met.’<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n Adam Carolla then said that DeGeneres was never directly mean to him. He came to the opinion that she was mean, because the people who worked for her that he interacted with were scared of their boss.<\/p>\n Of course, this is simply his opinion. However, he is by no means the first person to claim the former talk show host was \u201cmean.\u201d Margaret Cho recently said Ellen<\/a> was \u201cweird and not nice\u201d to her. Back in 2020, Ryan Phillippe threw some shade<\/a> at her by pausing over her \u201cbe kind to one another\u201d line. Meanwhile, former Bachelorette star Ali Fedotowsky-Manno said the host laughed<\/a> at her instead of with her.<\/p>\n\n
