{KXLG -Watertown, SD} The Codington County Commission has approved a five-year, $73,759.60 contract with Axon to provide new Tasers for the Sheriff’s Office and jail staff. The decision, which was passed unanimously, will upgrade the department’s equipment with 14 Taser 10 units.<\/p>\n
Sheriff Brad Howell presented the purchase agreement, explaining that the upgrade is necessary as the department’s older Taser models are nearing discontinuation. He highlighted that the new Taser 10 technology would come with a virtual reality training headset to help staff learn the new operational fundamentals.<\/p>\n
The contract’s total amount of $73,759.60 is spread over five years, with a smaller initial payment of $4,700 in 2025 to secure the equipment for training. The remaining cost will be paid in five annual installments of $13,811.92, starting in 2026. The agreement also includes unlimited live cartridges, training cartridges, batteries, and a five-year warranty.<\/p>\n

Commissioner Gabel made the motion to approve the purchase agreement, and Commissioner McElhaney provided the second.
