JACKSONVILLE, Fla. \u2014 Seven-year-old Sahara Wesley pedaled through life with joy and laughter.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe was so fun and just loving, so sweet,\u201d said her mom, Porsche Wesley.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe wanted to be a firefighter,\u201d said her dad, Phillip Orduna.<\/p>\n
Her parents say she was completely healthy\u2014until one visit to the dentist, to pull an abscessed tooth, changed everything.<\/p>\n

And we were there for four hours at the dentist for an extraction. And it was a long procedure,\u201d said Orduna.<\/p>\n He said Sahara started throwing up that night. By the next morning, she was unresponsive.<\/p>\n \u201cWe were about seven minutes away from the hospital at the time. And they performed CPR, tried to resuscitate her for about, I would say about an hour, and she was gone,\u201d said Wesley<\/p>\n Sahara\u2019s autopsy report found she died of sepsis.<\/p>\n At home, there are photos of her with her mom. All other reminders have been put in storage \u2013 they\u2019re too painful to see.<\/p>\n There is a handmade school project, and her favorite pair of shoes, that she will never wear again.<\/p>\n [DOWNLOAD: <\/b>Free Action News Jax app for alerts as news breaks<\/b><\/a>]<\/b><\/p>\n Dr. Ross Fishman is a pediatric dentist not connected to the case.<\/p>\n He owns Fishman Pediatric Dentistry in Atlantic Beach.<\/p>\n \u201cIf a kid comes in with an abscessed tooth, and it\u2019s draining locally, sometimes you can take that tooth right then and there and not even need antibiotics,\u201d said Dr. Fishman.<\/p>\n He said it\u2019s very rare to get sepsis after a procedure that Sahara had.<\/p>\n \u201cWe went and looked up the data, and you\u2019re more likely – 66,000 times more likely to have a sepsis after a procedure like a hip, knee, or tonsil. It\u2019s very rare,\u201d said Dr. Fishman.<\/p>\n But he adds that every child\u2019s body reacts differently.<\/p>\n \u201cThere\u2019s always that 1 in a million chance. I feel bad for the family, and I feel bad for the practicing dentist.
