(WJAR) — A father-son duo from Massachusetts is turning a lot of heads with their beautiful works of art.

Ed Capeau, 53, is a self-taught artist from Brockton.

He began painting in 1999 and eventually started his own business Ed Capeau Art.

“It’s available on Amazon, Walmart, anywhere you can imagine you can find my paintings,” said Capeau. “I grew up poor in Brockton and my biggest thing about art is, it should not be for the wealthy only. Everybody should be able to enjoy it.”

Capeau, who creates beautiful pieces of art on canvases, also creates jaw-dropping murals.

He never took art classes, and does everything free-hand.

Many businesses around Southern New England have hired him to paint one.

People also hire him and his son to create murals on walls of their homes, or any other type of flat surface.

“I’ve done things for Ty Law, Gerard Mayo, lots of local places, Vintage Vaults, Ma’s Donuts, we just came back from Florida for a piece,” he said. “Most of our work these days is coming from Facebook believe it or not. Fans that have been with us, following us for 20 years they’ve watched him since he was 3 years old.”

Additionally, he’s created murals at Boston Children’s Hospital, local farms, practices, and bakeries.

Max Capeau, 20, has been learning his dad’s business.

“He’s been painting with me pretty much his entire life. He’s actually the first person I’ve ever had help me with any artwork in my entire life, I never wanted anybody to,” said Capeau. “It’s hard to impress him even when he was a little kid he would be surrounded by my artwork he would be like, ‘Dad, can you move these out of the way?'”

“I started working with him fully a little after high school as a summer job, then it went further than a summer job,” said Max. “It’s a lot of fun. I enjoy doing it. It’s better than like working at like a fast food place.”

The Capeau men work specifically with indoor paint from Benjamin Moore only for their art work.

They can take someone’s vision and bring it to life, or, if there’s something specific they’re looking for, they can do that too.

“I always give everybody more than what they want but it’s hard for me sometimes because people are like, ‘Hey, can you do this?’ I’ve never done it, I know I can do it,” said Capeau. “Some people know exactly what they want, some people tell us to go wild.”

Recently, the pair were commissioned to create a Hogwarts-themed living room mural.

“I was excited, I kept texting the homeowner, ‘When are we going to start the Harry Potter mural?’ Because I was so excited to paint it,” said Capeau.

The mural, which took nearly 90 hours to complete in three weeks, is unbelievable.

It looks like it popped off the screen from the movie, and onto a wall.

Recently, Max has been taking more of a leadership role with his dad too.

“I basically give him assignments now. I’m starting to break off assignments where, this is your part of the mural, where he can be proud to say, ‘I did this.’ Not, ‘I helped with this,” he said. “I tell him all the time this is the greatest job you can have. Every person we meet is happy to see us. We’re not here to fix your plumbing, your electrical, or anything we’re here to make you smile every day.”

Capeau said in recent years, several celebrities have taken notice of his artwork and have purchased it too.

The support from his fans means the world.

FREETOWN, Mass.
