<\/p>\n\u201cIt was sheer panic,\u201d said Debbie Boswell, mother of Taylor Romoutar.<\/p>\n

The 33-year-old woman was driving her 35-year-old husband Jonathan Ramoutar to the airport in the early morning on July 21 \u2014 a routine they follow every Monday when Jonathon flies to northern Alberta, where he works in the province\u2019s oil industry.<\/p>\n
\u201cTaylor normally comes home after to sleep, but she never came home,\u201d said Boswell.\u00a0 \u201c I ran upstairs and googled \u2018accidents in the northeast\u2019 \u2014 and I saw her what I thought was her car.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cEMS, firefighters, police \u2014 they all said nobody is going to survive that, (but) they had someone looking over her that day,\u201d said Boswell.<\/p>\n

According to police, the couple was hit head-on by a Ford F-150 pickup- truck, driven by a 25-year-old.<\/p>\n

Investigators said he first struck and killed a pedestrian before his pickup plowed \u2014 head on \u2014 into the young couple\u2019s jeep.<\/p>\n
The force of the collision was so great, both vehicles ended up on their roof and rescue crews had to use the jaws of life to extract Taylor and Jonathon from their Jeep.<\/p>\n

The couple was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries, where they still remain.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe (Taylor) had 25 breaks in both of her arms and legs that had to be pinned or rodded or plated,\u201d said Boswell. \u201cShe\u2019s in a lot of pain.\u201d<\/p>\n

Taylor\u2019s sister Morgan, who lives in Fort St. John, B.C., rushed to Calgary to be by her side.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just yelled out, \u2018Taylor\u2019,\u201d said her sister.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe just didn\u2019t look like herself. She was so swollen and had the tube in her mouth and black eye and blood.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s terrifying \u2014 nobody should see a loved one go through that,\u201d said Morgan Burdock.<\/p>\n
The family said Jonathon suffered a long list of internal injuries and has spent 10 days in the intensive care unit at Foothills Hospital \u2014 and one point they thought they might lose him.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe doctor came to us and said it\u2019s not good, we can\u2019t guarantee tonight and it\u2019s minute-by-minute. There was 15 of us, all family and friends and we just all got into a big group hug and we all prayed and said how much we loved them,\u201d said Taylor\u2019s sister. \u201cWe just have had to keep doing that.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThere\u2019s a lot to celebrate because we thankfully have our family members with us, but (they\u2019re) still not out of the woods,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n
\t\t\t\t\tFamily and friends of the injured couple \u2013 seen here on their wedding day \u2013 have set up a Go Fund Me account to aise money to help with what is expected to be a long road to recovery.\t\t\t\t <\/p>\n

The family says the couple are both scientists who love to work out and to volunteer.<\/p>\n
